What are some stereotypes about ASU students?

party people, don't take school seriously, blonde/pretty people, slackers

Are the stereotypes accurate?

all stereotypes are based on some truth, but a lot of students take their work seriously. asu students know how to work hard and play hard

ASU: The Big Picture

I think ASU is a great school. There is a lot of activities students can get involved in. The campus is pretty big and there are plenty of people around. It's great for networking, meeting new people, getting help for school work. Another aspect that drew me to ASU is the school spirit, especially at sporting events. I love sports and especially this past year the students were in full school spirit mode for our football team and basketball team. I'm excited about the baseball season coming up and love that students are always there to support our athletes.

ASU Academic Life

The acedemic part of ASU is what you make of it. For me, I've taken classes where I just wanted an "easy A" and didn't give that much to the class; and I've also taken classes because I wanted to learn about the subject. For those classes I did all the required reading and then some. I paid attention in class and gave feedback. The professor was always available for a dialog (most common and easiest is through emails). It is what the student puts into the class that determines how much he or she takes out of the class. In my experience the professors are more than willing to help out if the student takes the initiative to go to office hours or to send emails with comments or concerns. Sometimes you aren't going to understand your professor or you aren't going to want to speak out in front of your fellow students so the availability of the professors outside of the classroom setting is really beneficial. Also, there are different classroom settings available for all types of learning. Within each required general studies course there are classes that only hold 20 to 30 seats and there are classes that hold 150 to 200 seats depending on the student's preference. I think this is really helpful in making all the new students feel comfortable at ASU.

ASU's Student Body

I think there is a good diverse group of people at ASU. Most of the kids here are from Arizona, but there are a lot of kids from out of state as well. While we might not be the most racial diverse campus in the country, I think the ideals of the student body are very diverse. Just walking around campus a student can see groups of people who believe in all sorts of causes and can approach these people to learn more about what they believe in and what they are trying to teach other people about. The great thing is that learning about other people's beliefs is completely voluntary on campus, so if you want to hear about what they are saying, you can walk up to them and find out, and then if you decide you don't agree you can have a lively discussion or you can walk away. Either way, everyone has their chance to speak out and make their opinion known without anyone's feelings getting hurt or belittled. I think the great thing about the student body at ASU is everyone seems to be passionate about something, whether it be politics, Greek life, sports, education, finances, religion, or any other topic, you can find people who are just as passionate about your cause as you are.

ASU Student Activities + Social Life

There is always something going on at ASU. There is always a party to go to, people to hang out with, people to study with. Freshman year all the dorms are open for people to walk in and get to know their neighbors. Everybody wants to have a good time and meet as many new people as they can. Whether you join Greek life or just want to chill with some close friends, you will find people who you love and make friends quickly here.
