What is your overall opinion of this school?
Brooklyn College was the best choice for me academically but it most certainly wasn't my first choice. Looking back, I'm really thankful to all my professors and advisors here because they really helped me sharpen my career focus. I fell in love with the campus the first time I visited. It is a gorgeous campus. I doubt you can see this much green in NYC outside of our parks! Not many people know Brooklyn College specifically but many are familiar with the CUNY system. I'm glad that we don't have a reputation because it keeps others from making judgements about me based on my school. There's always a place to just hang out, be it in the Student Center or a library reading room or on the quad or in the foyer of one of the buildings. Finding a quiet place is a bit more difficult! There isn't a lot of interaction with the dorms and campus life, which provides nice privacy for the residents. As I said before, BC has a solid academic profile. The administration has to be the biggest weakness, just due to lack of efficiency. They have improved tremendously in my time here but they still have a long way to go. I also think there should be more academic guidance/counseling for students because most don't go searching for it. Overall, I have lots of pride in my school though I rarely show it. As far as the neighborhood surrounding the school, there are a lot of places to eat and a Target nearby but the rest of the area is mostly residential and thus not very college friendly. I mean, when you're 40 with two kids, you won't really want a bunch of twenty somethings making noise at 2 in the morning in the middle of finals week. Hm...that pretty much covers it! The best way to enjoy BC to it's fullest? Get involved with a club!
