Colleges in Mississippi Hattiesburg

Mississippi derives its name from the Mississippi River, which flows through the state, in addition to many other many bodies of water. There are over 50 colleges and universities in Mississippi the majority of which are located in the largest city and capital of Jackson. However, the three largest schools in the state are not located in Jackson. Mississippi State University, MSU, has the largest enrollment with over 18,000 students. The public University of Mississippi has three large branches is affectionately known as Ole Miss. It also has an impressive, Tier 1 football team.

Another interesting college in Mississippi is the Mississippi University for Women, which is ranked by Forbes as a Best Public School. For students looking for a smaller liberal arts college in Mississippi, there’s the respected Tougaloo College and Rust College.
