Being the first New World Colony, Virginia is a state with a rich history and has more than 200 colleges and universities, both public and private from which to choose. The University of Virginia, UVA, was founded by Thomas Jefferson and has been declared a World Heritage Site. Impressively, UVA ranks second on the list of best public college in the US. There’s also number four-ranked College of William and Mary, the second oldest college in America. The state’s largest school is the Virginia Commonwealth University – Richmond and has over 200 programs for students to choose.

Virginia has over 120 private colleges alone, including the liberal arts schools Washington and Lee University and the notable University of Richmond. Virginia State also has a strong system of community colleges called VCCS with 23 school options.
