Preps! Honestly, mostly everyone I know is actually a very nice kid. However, most of the students come from a lot of money and may appear spoiled at first. There are a handful of stoner /festival type kids, and you can find them sitting out on Eddies Parade all day smoking pot. The football players are all nice kids that get wasted but they aren't all extreme jocks. The great part about Fordham though is regardless of the "stereotype" you fit into, the school is not very big so everyone hangs out with everyone at some point anyway.
The campus is beautiful. Being twenty minutes form Manhattan is the best. There are so many things to do in our city. You also are going to have a lot easier time finding a job somewhere in the city if you are looking for work. The party scene is fun near the school but gets old very quickly. The few bars are small and get very crowded as do the house parties. Explore NYC, it has so much fun to offer.
Every class is small and personal and the professors usually know everyone's name. Class participation is greatly encouraged. Fordham offers a great Communications and Media studies program. It is one of Fordham's most popular majors. You can concentrate in specific areas. I am concentrating in New Media. It is a great program about the newest of our media technology, exploring how new media like social media outlets are changing the way we give and receive information
There is little racial diversity. Most students are very preppy and dress preppy. Everyone is pretty friendly for the most part. Most students seem to come from a wealthy background.
For the most part, everyone goes to the off campus bars and parties at off campus apartments on the weekends. We have no frats and sororities and there is no chance of having any type of party with alcohol on campus. Football games are very popular and there are always parties afterwards. Spring weekend is one thing that gets everyone on campus. Fordham has a band play every year and usually everyone spends the whole weekend partying at the bars and apartments and then wander to campus for the show.
Typical weekend = drinking and getting ready with your friends in the dorm or apartments and then going to either, Mugsy's, Howl, Ziggy's or Tinkers if your a freshman. The area called tri-bar, which is the focal point of Fordham weekends, becomes crowded with students going between these three bars and student house parties at the surrounding apartments. On the weekend you will hardly find anyone on campus until they all come stumbling back between 2-5am..
The cafeteria food!! The caf food is really bad and not so easy on the stomach. This goes for the other on campus sites like the deli and grille, as they all come from the same company, Sodexo. However, there are about 6 awesome pizza places that deliver as well as a great Italian food on Arthur Avenue. You can get chines delivery and there is a lot of food in the surrounding area. The only thing that really stinks is the school will make you purchase a some kind of meal plan if you are going to live on campus. I suggest getting the least expensive one and getting food off campus.
There isn't too much diversity between the types of people that go to Fordham.
The Library for sure! The dorms can get very noisy and distracting. The library has plenty of room to sit and they have private rooms where you can sit with classmates and do work and talk. It get crowded around finals time, but they leave it open extra late during midterms and finals.
Fordham's Rose Hill campus is located on Fordham Road in the Bronx. The surrounding area is poverty stricken. There are often muggings, but I haven't heard of anything very violent. If you travel in groups, it is usually safe off campus. It is not the best place to be alone at night. The Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo are right across the street and offer some beautiful sights. Fordham Road has tons of cheap shopping.
