I think because Loyola is a private institution within a large, expensive city, the stereotype is "prep". There are more students here than at other schools that have the money to spend frivolously and care a little more about materials and status. Of course this does not include everyone, but there is definitely a strong population that can be considered "snoody".
I think the academics of Loyola are great. The professors are all very helpful and seem to care a lot about all of their students. However, there are some things that could be improved at this school. First off, I wish Loyola had more school spirit and was a little better at sports. I feel this would bring together a closer community because right now it feels like it's lacking in that department. It is a completely different college experience and feels a little more like grad school than undergrad, which isn't a terrible thing. I think I am slightly bias too towards Loyola because it is not a good fit for me because of the people and the atmosphere, and I am transferring next year.
The professors are great! Many of them know my name and would take a great interest if I needed extra help. They are all very interesting and present information in an engaging way, also promoting class participation. I definitely think Loyola helps prepare its students for further schooling, but could perhaps do a little better for those students who desire to get a job straight out of college.
The students here seem very conservative and already grown-up. This can be a really great thing, but it provides a completely different college experience than most would think college to be like. All the students are wealthy and seem to have no problem spending money. I also feel that it is sort of cliquey and there isn't a ton of bonding between different groups of friends.
I have no idea. I feel like a lot of students go their separate ways and are involved in smaller clubs. The sports here aren't huge and the sororities and fraternities also play a very small part as well. As a freshman in the dorms, students did not leave their doors open. I found it hard to get involved here and the dating scene is absent. A lot of boys that go here are homosexual, and there isn't a large male population to begin with anyways. Unless you have a fake or are 21, a weekend is usually a time to stay in and watch movies or if you don't mind spending money, to go out on the town.
