Everyone thinks the greek life here is crazy, which it is... but if your not in it - like me you do just fine. All you hear freshman year is about what sorority or frat your in and go to those parties but it completely dies down after your a sophomore living off campus with your close friends. Sports is big here, the ZonaZoo is loud and proud and if your not big into school spirit this may not be the right school for you.
Overall the campus is gorgeous, which was one of the main reasons I chose to come here, the women are beautiful and I have had nothing but a blast being part of the ZonaZoo and supporting my school where ever I go!
Bear Down!!!
I am in Eller College of Management here at UA and its by far one of the top 2 or 3 schools here on campus. I am double majoring in MIS and OM and i know basically all my professors and they know me when it comes to my core MIS classes. The MIS department at UA has been in the top 10 rankings since it was invented, and has been the best public MIS school in the nation for the 2nd year in a row.
Studying in Eller is big during the week -- but we always have that 3 day weekend, so its a work hard play hard mentality. Students in Eller are VERY competitive and are some of the best in the nation, lots of the "do the minimal to slide by" do not make it into eller because of the harder requirement classes you have to take to get accepted.
The faculty and the advisers are awesome because once your accepted into Eller they take care of you and get you into the classes you need,
Have i ever felt out of place at my school??? NO! you wear your red arizona gear and you fit in anywhere!!!
If there were a few different groups at school the main ones at the school would be the same you would find at any school really...
The greek life frat/sorority kids
Smart stay home and study
smart and social
completely social partying it up
and then the rest a small mix
At Eller theres lots of career fairs that gear you toward getting out in the real world and getting a job, they might not tell you what your going to earn cause its always different for people but thats the same for any business school I would think
Greek life is big at UA, it always has been and i feel always will be.
If your not in greek life don't worry haha, you will make it by just fine! I met most of my friends freshman year in the dorm and have been hanging out with all of them since! we are the best group and always have semester big reunion parties its super fun! Theres probably 15 of us total and when you include all your personal friends that are just outside the normal circle its a massive group of people you connect with.
Tucson may not have every activity in the world but you can do just about everything, the sun is always shining so outdoor activities like hiking, biking and what not are very big. Theres always some big sporting game going on during saturday or even some thursday basketball games to start off the weekend.
Partying for people can range to once a month and most of the time staying in studying to 3 and 4 times a week, just depends on the crowd or people you hangout with. When tests come around or finals the amount of going out drops drastically haha.
"The Mall & Old Main"
Its the center of campus.... you can imagine our campus as a rectangle, with the Mall running through the center of it the entire distance from East to West. Old main is in the center of that and really close to the Student Union which is our heart and soul of campus.
The mall is a long outdoor area with grass, lined with beautiful palm trees and bike lanes. There is always something going on or people walking to class, its just a super active area where you can people watch or just hangout even until the late hours of the night. Old main is our first building and our trade mark and if you did a simple google search you would understand completely of what i said.
Some of the classes when it comes to gen eds are kinda lame..... but it really depends on what you are interested in.
Now that I am a senior I am taking all classes I am 100% interested in and it really feels like I am not taking any classes at all, you go cause your interested now which has been a huge change when I was a freshman. Taking English and religion was not something I was interested in and wow did I not care... but you just have to suck it up and get the requirement out of the way.
Wildcat Nation is crazy!!! BEAR DOWN!!!! ZonaZoo!!!
everyone in Tucson shows up for game days and the tailgates begin early for football games. The ZonaZoo for a football game is 10,000 students loud and proud! We still have some work to do to get back to being our "Desert Swarm" days but we will get there with our new North Endzone project set to start after this season.
Inside McKale its even crazier as "Point GuardU" our nickname when it comes to Basketball shows nothing less than an almost packed arena every game. As we are on track to get our next National Championship banner hung once again in McKale in the next few years.
