It's true that there are a lot of privileged students that go to DePaul University, but they don't make up the majority of our student population. DePaul is very diverse and admits people from all walks of life. There is an equal balance of just about every type of person, and hundreds of different organizations and activities on campus to help you meet them.
Our classroom is Chicago! The DePaul curriculum encourages its students to get out and explore the magnificent city that we live in. Freshmen are required to take either a "Discover Chicago" or an "Explore Chicago" class to help them get acclimated to city life. The first few weeks at DePaul are the most exciting because new students learn how to navigate throughout Chicago using public transportation and discover all sorts of attractions and cool places the city has to offer.
Unlike state universities, DePaul classrooms are not packed with over a hundred students. Class sizes are very similar to what students were probably used to in high school. There are usually about 20-30 students per class. They are kept smaller this small to ensure that all of their students get the most out of their education. It's not difficult to seek help for your professors, and they great part is they will actually learn your name and get to know who you are. At DePaul you're more than just a number!
There are so many different organizations at DePaul University. Like many, if not all colleges, athletics plays a large roll in student life, but at DePaul it does not define it. Students take more pride in academic and community participation. There are numerous organizations that focus on volunteering, which benefits our greater Chicago community.
Throughout the academic year, there are multiple events that occur just so DePaul students can socialize with one another and have a good time! There's a pep rally at the beginning of the basketball season, a homecoming dance, countless concerts and interesting speakers, and the granddaddy of all events, FEST. It is the biggest DePaul event that nearly every student attends. FEST is the end of the year blow out concert in the quad. A popular artist is chosen to perform to a large crowd of students. Last year Ludacris headlined.
