There are definitely more girls than guys and the students certainly lean fratty.
The campus is beautiful and there are a nice variety of courses offered. As with any school, I have had some very good professors and some VERY bad ones as well. The town does not lend itself to a very strong nightlife but for college kids that is a blessing in disguise. Its not dullsville like Clemson either so it seems to be a good balance. The class size is great and you are able to get individualized experiences as your professors will actually know who you are if you make an effort. Overall the school provides a great balance. Not too much pressure either way, so if you are dedicated to the learning experience, the resources are there. If you decide to squander your time, well those opportunities are there too.
For example, I have taken both micro and macro economics. The professor for micro-economics was well educated, articulate, fairly engaging, and fair. He stuck to the topic and provided real world examples. My macro-economics professor was all but illiterate in English, constantly trashed Americans, calling them lazy and elitist, and provided more examples on how we are detrimental than helpful on the world economic scene. In addition, he was so completely awful at teaching the concepts that I learned what I did through reading the book and youtube videos. NOT worth the cost of the class.
I have worked with some great students who are very dedicated and will go far when they graduate. More often than not though I have seen woefully poor math and language skills. I don't know if this a CofC thing or if it is just US students in general.
