A popular stereotype about Spelman women is that we are all smart, rich and arrogant. I am hear to tell you that only one part of this holds truth with every Spelman woman... and it is being smart! Most Spelman women take pride in their intelligence and are accepted into Spelman because of their outstanding academic skills. So when you hear that we are smart, it is very true! The other stereotypes about us all being rich and arrogant is definitely false. While there are some girls that attend Spelman and come from families of wealth, there are still a large amount of students who do not. Finally, the stereotype that we are all arrogant or stuck up is totally false. While there may be some Spelman students who possess this attitude does not mean that we all do.

I will start off with saying that choosing to come to Spelman College has been one of the best decisions of my life. Since Spelman is a historically black college (HBCU) and an all women's college, one of the best qualities about it is constantly being surrounded by powerful, intelligent, black women. The environment is very healthy and motivating. When I tell people that I attend Spelman College, the reactions I receive always remind me that I am at one of the most prestigious HBCU's in the nation. They are always very impressed and excited for my future. Another thing that makes Spelman unique is that is it fairly small so there is a strong sense of a school community and most of all sisterhood! Spelman is not too small in my opinion, it is just right! The administration on campus is exceptional because they set standards for all students to meet and it is expected that we always maintain high standards for ourselves. Spelman College is an illustrious institution that has changed my life for the better thus far and I can not wait to see where it takes me in the future. I strongly encourage anyone who is seriously interested to apply!

Students at Spelman College are similar in a lot of ways but are extremely diverse at the same time. Even though Spelman is a historically black college (HBCU), there are still students who are of many different ethnicities. There are Spelman students who come from all of the following places: Africa, London, Czech Republic, Japan and the Caribbean Islands. This is a great example of how Spelman is an HBCU, but the types of students vary greatly. Spelman students are very politically aware and active. There are clubs on campus like, The Political Science Society and Young Democrats that facilitate the political awareness on campus. Often students do talk about how much they will earn one day because Spelman women are always planning for the future! Spelman students want to be successful and have a great career once they graduate, so the future is always on the table for discussion!
