People often think of Brown students as hippie activists and stoners. While there are probably a larger proportion of these students here than others, Brown is super diverse and so it's easy to find students who are not interested in activism and drugs. Despite the varying kinds of people, I think that generally most Brown students are liberal, open-minded, and interested in new perspectives and opinions outside their own.
I love Brown! One of my favorite parts is, of course, its open curriculum and how easy it is to take classes and explore topics beyond your concentration. And of course, the students. For the most part, everyone is very accepting, open, and incredibly interesting. Everyone is driven but generally not openly competitive or obnoxious. While I wouldn't necessarily say I could not be anywhere else, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to attend Brown.
Although the professors vary in terms of teaching ability, I have not had one professor who wasn't, well, nice. So far, all have been very easy to reach out during office hours and were friendly. Some departments have notoriously bad professors (math) in the lower level classes. Thankfully, Brown offers free group and one-on-one tutoring services for popular classes like intro chem or intro math. My experience with professors have generally been quite positive. I credit this to shopping period and the Critical Review (which is like a ratemyprofessor for Brown) which has enabled me to pick classes with professors I like.
Most students are very open and interested about learning about other perspectives whether they be racial, religious, LGBT, etc. The only kinds of students that I think would feel out of place would be those who are super socially conservative. Most students (esp girls) are very fashionable which can be annoying to those who prefer sweats. :P There are many wealthy students and the socio-economic gap is at times obvious, but, as one on finaid, it has never been an issue in any way.
Brown students drink a lot and most of the social scene is dorm related. There is a definite campus bubble and it is easy to spend most of your time on college hill.
Open curriculum, diverse students, opportunities, political leaning (I came from a very conservative high school)
