The stereotype of students at Arizona State varies from person to person. The party kid aspect is fading slightly but is still present. The great aspect of ASU and its HUGE campus is that is comes with a HUGE student body. ASU has every stereotype you could imagine but it breaks all of them as well. No matter where you think you fit in you will find it on campus.
Arizona State is a school of opportunities. Its huge campus offers activities for every interest, groups for every interest, as well as educational opportunities galore. You can get lost in its numbers but study groups and individual instruction is always available. The professors experience is extraordinary and offers opportunity to meet some of the most interesting people in the country. There is always something going on on campus and off. Living without a car is fairly easy with grocery stores, restaurants, entertainment and more available in an easy walking distance.
Once again ASU offers a variety of academic opportunities. The class sizes vary from huge lectures to ten person classes. I found that i have more small classes then 300 person lectures so that fear was quickly diminished. Yes the required labs ect. will be more crowded but the more major centered classes are individualized and small. No matter what class size the professors are all extremely experienced and can become contacts in the future. The smaller classes do provide an easier approach to contact but i have gotten to known some professors in 150 person lecture and continued to take their later, smaller classes. My favorite class is with an old professor covering history of World War One and Two. The benefits of the large university is that it provides classes which can be extremely specialized. The resources of ASU provide classes that are specialized to any of your hearts desires. The school sets you up for success with constant job fairs, resume builders, and more.
Students at Arizona state are unique and varied. You can find any variety and combination of personalities imaginable. There are groups for all ages, sizes, races, religions, ect. ect. There are groups for everyone interested. On the surface ASU contains tanned blonde girls, and buff tan guys but with a little digging you will find tons of multi-cultural groups, frats, and more. Most students are from California or Arizona however like me, from New York, many students are from all over the country flock to the campus. Students vary on the political and economic spectrum. There are always interesting events on campus, political movements, clubs attempting to recruit, and more. ASU provides the opportunity for all the find their niche.
The most popular activities and groups on campus vary greatly. Football and other sports games encourage students across campus to come out. Sports drive much of the student body with Student Alumni Association groups as well as cheerleaders. Tailgates, pep-rallies and more encourage students to participate in college events with constant reminders and notifications around campus it isnt hard to stay involved. The inter murals offer fun activities for all sport levels. There are amazing theater opportunities, art galleries, guest speakers and more. Every year huge amounts of students join in the Undie-run, the Pat-Tilman run, and more. There are snow events, winter concerts and more. There are parties every night and Greek life is present but not extremely important. Groups are formed for everything imaginable from academic honors, to Harry Potter clubs and Snow Devils.
Classes vary based on your major, your campus and more. I greatly enjoy my classes. As a Secondary Education in History my classes have varied from 150 person lectures to ten person classes. I enjoy my professors though there are some which i do not like particularly. I have a five day a week class schedule but many people manage only three days a week. My classes are fair and highly helpful. One of my favorite things about ASU is the opportunities to classes of a specific nature, like my Total War and the Crisis of Modernity class.
