I definitely should have visited before I decided to commit. While the campus is stunningly beautiful, the social scene is very stifled. Groups form so quickly and it's best described as being "clique-y." I don't feel that a lot of the students are very accepting to new-comers...
However, the professors are extremely knowledgable and the majority have earned the highest degree in their field. Don't be surprised to hear your professor talk about his graduate experience at Stanford or Berkeley.
The class sizes are small. With the exception of core science classes, like Chem 101 and Bio 101, the average size is around 20 students. This is excellent for one-on-one participation with the professor, but it's impossible to fly under the radar. The teachers expect a lot out of their students and aren't afraid to be tough with them.
The downside to such a small college is the course selection, or lack thereof, of college courses.
The predominant race here is caucasian, no question about that. However, L&C has an awesome international student program so the campus is sprinkled generously with students from all over the world-- from Japan to Norway.
The student body however, is extremely clique-y. Even the dining hall has a feel of segregation to it; the "light" side (better lighting and closer to the food) has your typical sports fans and bros, the "dark" side has your art enthusiasts, the quiet ones, and the loners.
One thing that L&C students love is the student-run coffee shop, the "Co Op." Prices are extremely low and it has a very laid back vibe. All the workers are students and work on a volunteer basis. The only downside is that it's quite out of the way for members of most dorms to go to on a regular basis.
The dorms are VERY small. Beware of quads, you won't get any privacy. Avoid Copeland at all costs unless you're into drinking/partying/drug use (and by drug use, I mean weed... in most cases) going on around you practically every night of the week.
