    • What is your overall opinion of this school?

Come to Amherst not just for the academics. Come for those, but more for the people. The experience itself. It's a small school with big opportunities and lots of choices. Almost everyone here loves it. It's the best thing that ever happened to me.

    • What are the academics like at your school?

The professors are very much into creating relationships with students. They'll take you in. Even in the big lecture classes, which are themselves rare, the professors seem to make it a point to know every single person and their name and everything about them. The whole school revolves around the students. They baby us- there are so many resources that they don't let anyone slip through the cracks. The professors and everyone else are very attentive to our needs. And all the professors seem to be brilliant/the expert in something. There are a lot of hot shots/experts in their fields, but even they know all your names.

    • Describe the students at your school.

There are far more recruited athletes at Amherst than I expected, but even they are usually pretty smart. To be dumb by Amherst standards is still pretty smart in the rest of the world.

People tend to make friends. No one seems to be totally alone.

    • What are the most popular student activities/groups?

A cappella groups are really big here. Partying is a big deal but it's certainly not the only choice on a Saturday night. There are frats but they're kind of underground. Hooking up is totally standard, unfortunately for the monogamously minded.

    • What is the stereotype of students at your school?

There's the idea that the "old Amherst" is still alive and kicking- the white, wealthy, male and conservative people/ideals.

The other idea (quite the opposite from the first) is that everyone here is uberly liberal.

    • Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Some of the professors remain from the old amherst era. And it does feel like everyone around you, for the most part, is either way richer than you are or, these days with Tony Marx's campaign, way more poor. The liberal thing is much more true- conservatives have voiced feelings of ostracization. But so has everyone else.

    • Here’s your chance: Say anything about your college!

People don't tend to transfer out of Amherst, they tend to transfer TO Amherst. Also, people find ways to stay- like jobs here.
