College Review What is your overall opinion of this school? The best thing about UGA for me is all the new people I have met since coming here. Also, it is nice to be close to home but not too close. UGA is a large school and sometimes I get overwhelmed by its size especially at first but I think once you find your niche it gets smaller. People are impressed when I tell them I go to UGA especially if they are from Atlanta because the there is a huge amount of competition to get into UGA and therefore makes acceptance more difficult to achieve. Athens is definitely a college town because the university is so large. I have had some good teachers and I have had some not so good teachers but I think that you find that at every school. UGA provides background info on most of the teachers like what the class average of their class' in the past are etc. and this helps with choosing the teachers that are right for me. There is a HUGE amount of school pride and I love it! It really gets me excited about being here and proud. The most complaints probably have to do with the harsh penalties given when a student is caught drinking underage and also the amount of police in athens. It is like the police are just out to get the students in trouble. It seems like they focus only on arresting the students downtown and not with the serious crimes that have been reported so far this year. One thing about UGA that makes me a little uncomfortable is the government welfare housing that is located right next to campus and the freshman dorms. 227 Likes Like This Answer Already Liked This Answer Thank you, this item will be reviewed. What are the academics like at your school? my teachers know my name in the smaller classes that I am in. In the 300 people lecture classes I have to make an effort to get to know the teacher if I want them to know my name. In those classes we usually have a TA which helps split up the number of people one person is in charge of. It is easier to get to know your TA than your teacher in these classes because we are told to go to them first with any questions or concerns we have. the TA's grade all of our assignments so they are the ones to get to know anyways. It really differs how much time a student spends studying. I personally have always studies a lot but then there are people who do not have to spend a lot of time studying and still do well. I would say class participation is common. My experience so far has been that students aren't extremely competitive because classes are only a semester long and when you do not know anyone in your class in the beginning you do not feel comfortable enough with them to be competitive. I am more competitive with myself and expect a lot which motivates me. 996 Likes Like This Answer Already Liked This Answer Thank you, this item will be reviewed. Describe the students at your school. I do not think any one would feel out of place at UGA because it is so diverse. Kids mostly wear t-shirts and jeans or shorts to class. People also dress up which is fun to do once in a while. flip-flops and sneakers are the most common shoes. 167 Likes Like This Answer Already Liked This Answer Thank you, this item will be reviewed. What are the most popular student activities/groups? football is probably the most popular event at UGA. the game are so much fun. everyone gets dressed up in red and black and cheer on the dawgs. people party a lot here but you do not have to go out. personally, it is hard to keep up but when I do go out it is always a great time. friends from other colleges are always coming into town on the weekends to go out and party. greek life is pretty big here but then again there are a lot of people. rush, at least for girls, is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be here. the NYT ranked UGA at the top of the list when talking about the worst rush on campus' around the country which is SO NOT true. 116 Likes Like This Answer Already Liked This Answer Thank you, this item will be reviewed.
