    • What is your overall opinion of this school?

The best thing about this school is not only the quality education it offers it's students, but the wonderful town the school is in. Austin, TX provides its residents with abundant outdoor activities, music festivals, social events, etc. You can grow in your education at school during the week, and learn just as many fantastic things from the surrounding community on the weekends. Whether you're attending the Longhorn football games, checking out SoCo and the millions of bats, swimming in Barton Springs or studying in the Tower on UT's campus, you will never forget the years you spent at this school.

    • What are the academics like at your school?

There are a lot of different types of teaching styles and classes offered at the University of Texas at Austin. Some classes, like discussion sections or labs, are small and others can be a little larger (250-300 students), like an introductory lecture class. Most professors here make an effort to get to know their students and give them every opportunity to succeed, and the students in turn respect their professors and participate inside and outside of class. Students aren't really competitive, but it does depend on what type of major you are in. However, no matter your major, the professors and their respective classes are not only geared towards bettering their students for the job market, but also providing them with an education that can aid them in every aspect of their lives.

    • Describe the students at your school.

There are hundreds, if not a few thousand, student organizations on campus. You can join a club/org that is UT-affiliated, or one that is not. The best thing is is that it's up to you how many organizations you get involved in. There is a group for everyone, so it shouldn't be difficult to find your own little place in campus-wide life (for example, our school has a Quidditch Team. Pretty darn cool, right?) Students here are very open and laid back, no judgement. Students tend to be active with groups they feel passionately about, or organizations that apply to their academic major, religion, hobby, etc.

    • What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Student orgs can range anywhere from reading clubs, political groups, dance teams, martial arts, poetry clubs, athletic clubs, Quidditch teams (yes, as in Harry Potter "flying broomsticks" Quidditch), religious groups, etc. Dorm life is great, especially for new students who want to make a lot of new friends, but off-campus life is great too! Athletic events are a pretty big deal at this school (Go Horns!), but if you're not into sports that's ok too! If you're a morning person, there are some pretty cool guys and gals hanging out in the coffee shops and grassy lawns on or near campus. If you're a night owl like myself, this city pretty much never sleeps (whether you stay up to study or stay up to party, you can always find a buddy to tag along with). If you're privileged enough to be 21 and up, 6th street is the place to be. But if you're not, there is (literally) a live music show somewhere in Austin every night, parties that are alcohol free, sporting events, and tons of outdoor activities (my favorite is climbing the local hills or paddleboarding on Town Lake). If you come to this university, make sure you do some exploring throughout downtown and the local communities, you'll be amazed at what you find.
