    • Any tips on getting the most out of campus tours and info sessions?

Believe it or not, positioning is important. If you are taking a group tour, situate yourself in the front of the line near the tour guide. If you are participating in an info session, come prepared with a number of questions, specifically as they relate to the school you are touring

    • Are guidebooks, relatives, and rankings useful in choosing a school?

The fact is that everything and anything may be useful in the admissions process. Legacy may be beneficial, especially if the relative is an active alumni. It is important to research all schools of interest, and find out what they are historically looking for. Do they take a holistic approach to evaluating the student, or are they known for GPA/ranking

    • Are there activities/organizations that impress highly selective colleges?

I believe that what schools look for is community service and well rounded students. I believe they also like to see a student who has an interest and tracks that interest through high school, whether it be art, music, robotics etc...

    • Can the number of times you contact a college impact your chances?

It couldn't hurt! Writing, emailing, calling - the schools do keep a log of contacts. Also, call the school you are interested in, and ask for the alumni office. Explain that you would like to set up an interview with an alumni and meet face to face - and come prepared with questions!!!

    • How do prospective students get recruited for their sport?

A number of ways - students may register through AAU for travel teams, which often are visited by coaches or recruiters. They should check websites of college teams, write to colleges, contact coaches of schools they are interested in, complete an athletic resume or portfolio and visit the coaches and the teams at the college

    • What are the differences between college and conservatory dance departments?

Conservatory Dance Companies are danced focused. It is intensive preparation into the field of dance. College dance departments are one part of a students education, and provide a well rounded education as well as concentrations in dance
