At Knox each year we celebrate Flunk Day. Each year one day during Spring term, classes are canceled and the entire campus is filled with fun activities. Each year a group of Seniors are chosen as Friars and are charged with the task of alerting the campus. This year I was chosen as a friar and had an awesome time. We were kept up in the night before and completely surprised when we were told that we were Friars, the first group of students to know that Flunk day was indeed tomorrow. It was awesome. My major is very unique in that it is interdisciplinary as well as the fact that I am the only declared American Studies major at Knox right now. Being an AMST major, I have been allowed ti kind of create my own curriculum. There are core requirements to study, but the interdisciplinary nature has allowed to focus in on an area of study that holds my interest. I am glad that I chose this major because it has allowed to me really dig into issues that I find interesting.
I have encountered the type of student at Knox that should feel out of place and it was extremely bizarre that at Knox I would find such a student. At a college founded by abolitionists that bolsters a heavy tie to Abraham Lincoln, they type of student that would feel out of place would be some that is racist. Racism is something that is not tolerated at Knox. Students that subscribe to those types of ideologies should feel immediately unwelcome at Knox College. For most students it is incomprehensible that those types of ideals would be held by someone that is a student at Knox.
The debate on Greek life at Knox has been prevalent this year. For a minority group of 33% the Greek community endures much scrutiny as well as what feels like persecution. It is strange that as a member of the minority, the Greek community should feel this way.
Nerds, Hippies, Rich Kids, Angry Liberals/Feminists/Activists, Alcoholics
