What is your overall opinion of this school?
In my honest opinion, Boston College is by far the best all-around school in the country. With a little over 9,000 undergrads, it is the perfect size: not too big, and not too small. It's only a few minutes from Boston, America's college town, and Chestnut Hill is a beautiful suburb, not to mention the fact that it was recently ranked the safest town in the US. The sports are incredible; they're all division one and are competitive every year. Football is HUGE during the fall semester, and hockey is arguably the best program of its kind in the nation. Not only are all sports games fun to watch, they foster a huge sense of school pride. In short, BC has a great academic reputation, an awesome party scene, prime location, the perfect size, competitive sports, school spirit, a beautiful campus, and a bright, friendly, and good-looking student body.
What are the academics like at your school?
Academics are what you make of them. Some people take really hard classes, and some people can pull off close to a 4.0 with almost no work. I was in the pre med program for a while, which was really competitive and classes were extremely difficult. The major classes freshman year (introductory courses) will have 150+ students, but most have about 20 students. The vast majority of kids here follow the "work hard, play hard" mantra and are smart (they have to be to get into BC). However, while the students here are bright, this isn't Tufts or Harvard, and you won't get into conversations about U.S. foreign policy at a party.
Describe the students at your school.
I'm not gonna lie; BC is pretty much Whitebread U. A large majority of students are white, middle-class, and from the northeast. If you're really serious about immersing yourself in diversity, don't come here. However, beyond the lack of diversity, the student body is amazing. Virtually everyone is intelligent, friendly, social, and involved. Everyone is happy to be here and loving college life. Not to mention, the girls are incredibly hot.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There are tons of clubs and activities on campus- a bunch of club and intramural sports, and a club for any interest/hobby you might have. Most kids here are athletic and play sports-I played IM hockey, which you actually get to play on the Conte Forum ice. Besides a sport, I'd definitely recommend joining at least one club on Student Activities Day. As for the party scene, BC is a drinking school (what school isn't nowadays) and there is definitely a ton of drinking on the weekends and before sporting events, but if you don't drink, you'll find people who don't either. The kids here are all pretty chill and leave their doors open-everybody's really friendly and open, so you're bound to find your group of friends very quickly. I'm not just saying that either, it really is mad/hella/wicked friendly and open here. Also, I had to mention one of my favorite experiences at BC: for the Boston Marathon, everyone gets up at 9, starts drinking at 10, and then line up along Commonwealth to go crazy and high five and cheer on the runners. DO NOT MISS THAT!!!
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
Rich, white, subrubanites, and preppy; "J Crew With a Hangover"
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
A lot of students are rich and white, but that certainly doesn't define everyone. BC is lacking in diversity, but that doesn't mean everyone falls into this stereotype. You are guaranteed to meet a large majority of good, stand-up people at BC.
