Smith is more than a college where you learn stuff. Smith is a launchpad to find who you are the the life you will live and love to live. Smith is an open environment where anyone can feel welcome and accepted.
Smith's academics is an infinite life resource for each of it's students. Not only is the classroom comfortable, friendly, stimulating, and engaging but proffessors are extremely approachable and accommodating for help outside of the classroom. The education does not stop their however, some of the best conversations of my life have happened outside of the class room. Not only do I have competent, interesting, amazing women to share in my excitements all around me but have the opportunity to make them life long friends that will constantly make me become a better person.
The Smith student body is the most characterizable group of people I have ever met. So for lack of better labels I label them all as "Smithies" This may be obvious but to a Smithie the word Smithie encompasses so many things. The main thing that it encompasses to me is purpose. I truly believe that everyone who ended up at Smith has a purpose or will have a purpose after they leave. A Smithie is a unique, dedicated, complex, strong, woman who is ready to change the world.
Smith offers a wide range of activities and social revenues for the diverse student body. With over 100 organizations on campus, 14 collegiate teams, and 12 club teams, Smith offers something for everyone. There is also always something going on. Art, music, dance, drama, is all going on at Smith casually or formally in weekend shows, house exhibitions, student forums, ext. The calendar at Smith is always full and as diverse as the student body.
Smith students are socially awkward, book smart but have no common sense, gay, and uncompetitive.
No, none of these stereotypes are correct. Although they all exist on campus they cannot be generalized about the students at Smith as a whole. In fact the group labeled "Smith Student" is so diverse that I can not think of one single generalization that would encompass the extremely diverse Smith campus.
