What is your overall opinion of this school?
I think that IC is the perfect size- with just over 6,000 undergrads- not too big and not too small. IC is non- denominational and you can practice any religion, services for Catholic, Protestant, and Judaism. Ithaca is GORGES! Beautiful water falls and hiking trails. However the winters are very long and often windy up on the big hill. Lots to do with Cornell so close by- great college town! The school is looking to increase diversity and always strive for everyone's acceptance of one another. Tuition is VERY pricey- but you can apply for financial aid and a few scholarships. The college can't compete with other schools unless it raises their prices- still though, it is too much moneyCortica Jug is the best football game! Cortland vs IC- and boy is that a party. Very sustainable school- you will definately end up recycling if you didn't prior to college.
What are the academics like at your school?
Professors are great- ALWAYS willing to work one on one- (atleast all mine have) Great teacher to student ratio and professors really put in the time to help you succeeed. PT is a very challenging major and you must be dedicated. Studying is non stop! Music and theatre programs are also very competitive. Business school is growing as well. Lots of crazy classes like scuba diving or the history of dinosaurs! I think the SAT scores are looked at too much at Ithaca. I still got in, but my SAT score says nothing of how hard I work or who I am. Standarized tests just get me!
Describe the students at your school.
Lots of LGBT- but everyone is great! Much greater white population but diversity is increasing. Special programs and often financial assistance for ALANA students. I ahve friends of all race and religion- but the college does have a greater white population so more friends are caucasian. IC is VERY Liberal! Although I am moderate in my views- the school is extremely liberal with all politics professors being Democrat. Students do come from all financial back grounds. Yes there are some "uppities" but many come from very large families with little assistance at home and work a lot of hours to keep up.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Great D3 sports teams. Students are very involved- Comedies, Bands, Choirs, Accapella groups, Student government, volunteer activities, guest speakers, big events with free food! Frats and Sororities- there really aren't any! That is Cornell. People range in partying from 5x a week to once a month. Some good bars in town but you HAVE to be 21- they really get you for underage. i like to chill and watch movies a lot- or go out for a drink. Hiking is a favorite of mine!
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
Everyone smokes pot
There are so many hippies
Ithaca has a great science program- PT, OT, ES, SP
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
No- you don't have to smoke pot or be a hippie! But YES- the science programs are phenominal!!
