Pomona is a very small school (about half the size of my high school) and everyone lives on campus. Because of this there is a very communal feeling. You'll know the face or the name of everyone in your class by the end of the year (assuming you're not a recluse). The town is also rather small, but with such close proximity to LA (30 minute train ride), it serves as a comfortable spot to get off of campus for a little while and catch a movie or grab a bite to eat. The administration does a good job with getting you adjusted and making sure you stay happy. There is a lot of stress placed on the happiness of the students at Pomona.
In two semesters of taking mostly introductory courses, my largest class size was 28. Every professor knows each student by name within a month of each class. Class participation is encouraged and professors tend to be engaging. The course material is difficult but manageable.
The student body leans VERY far left politically. I would consider myself a liberal, and even I find some of the activism at Pomona to be a little over the top. Other than that, there is no typical student. The body is very diverse in ethnicity, background, where they're from, and so forth.
You make your own fun here. There is plenty of extracurricular stuff to take part in. There are plenty of parties between the 5C's and the drinking policies are (for the most part) hands off. There is no Greek life and everyone lives on campus.
Elitist?
There really is no typical Pomona student. In my experience I would consider the level of arrogance to be lower than that of an elite institution such as Pomona. So, no, it is not wholly accurate.
There are NO attractive women here. My friends and I attempted to make a top 5 list in the freshman class and we came up with two names. Yikes
