Despite recent controversy, I think that Knox is a place very open to discussion. John Ashcroft was brought to Knox by the Knox Republicans this past spring, and there were a lot of protests, which got some very negative feedback. People kept saying Knox was not a place open to non-liberal ideas, but in John Ashcroft coming to Knox, his ideas were discussed, and the behavior of the protestors was vastly discussed, which I think means we have a good campus dialouge going.
Everyone really likes Flunk Day. It's the best day of the whole school year.
Most of the administration is in touch with the students, except for the President, who is mostly in touch with making Knox financially impregnable, which also has its merits.
The academics at Knox tend to be very rigorous, but satisfying. Once I was talking with a friend and she said, "It's fairly easy to be a B student at Knox, but it's really difficult to be an A student." I think this is an accurate description. Class sizes are small, most of the professors are very personable.
My favorite class so far has definately been Sexism and Racism in Post War German Literature, which counted for credit in my major and both my minors. While Knox doesn't have very many specialty classes, the ones they do have are usually really interesting.
There are a lot of liberals at Knox, but most of them aren't as liberal as they think they are. As a result, Republicans often feel out of place. I would say people who are focused on money and appearence will have difficulty fitting in.
Knox students are very nerdy. They aren't all nerdy in the same way. Some students are nerdy in the "I study seven hours a day" kind of way. Others are nerdy in the, "I play video games all the game," or the, "I love live action roleplay kind of way." Others spend half their time trying to make art.
We are also stereotypically very bad at sports.
Yes, Knox students are nerdy and our sports teams besides the golf team and the baseball team are not very successful.
