What is your overall opinion of this school?
Conn is great! One thing I always notice is how many students wear "Conn" attire like sweatshirts and t-shirts that say Conn on them. We are very proud of being camels and like to show it. For me, the college is a great size too, under 2000 students but big enough that i do meet new people if not every day but every other day. When i tell people that i go to Connecticut College almost everyone thinks i got to Uconn which gets EXTREMELY annoying because Connecticut College is SUCH a better school than Uconn! But people who are well-educated know Conn. Something that is unusual about Conn college is that it offers free music lessons for credit! Due to an endowment, students can take any type of music lesson for no charge. I take lessons on both violin and viola with an awesome teacher! I spend most of my time on campus either in class, the library, my room or the student center. During swim season (I'm on the varsity swim team from November to February) i spent most of my time in the pool and the library.
What are the academics like at your school?
Professors have always known my name. I even have a lecture class with at least 60 students and my professor called me by my name in class! I study everyday for 3 hours. My favorite class so far was a political theory class because the professor was very interesting and since he was excited about the subject it made me excited about it! I can definitely use the education I am getting at Conn to get me very far in life!
Describe the students at your school.
Very accepting, very liberal students. Mostly just white upper-class though i would like to see some more diversity. Students can be active, some are not.. it depends who you hang out with.
What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Students definitely left their doors open in the beginning of the year which helped everyone get to know each other. I suggest leaving your door open or just walking into an open door and introducing yourself. You have to be outgoing to meet people, they aren't just going to come to you! I met my closest friends in my dorm and on my swim team and in my orchestra group. People party twice a week, thursday and saturday nights. We don't have frats or sororities which is great!!!!!!!!
What is the stereotype of students at your school?
That we are a bunch of rich kids who don't care about the outside world.
Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
I do agree that many upper-class students attend Conn College but isn't that true of any NESCAC or Ivy League school? We do, however, care about the world outside of our campus. For example we were 4th in recyclemania this year, many students attended the "walk for the homeless" in local new london and we have had many rallies to fight for human rights and to stop sexual abuse.
Here’s your chance: Say anything about your college!
Conn is a GREAT school. All NESCAC schools are great schools and you will get a great liberal arts education. These are the "little ivy" schools people are talking about!
