What are some stereotypes about St. Joe's students?

People think that all Saint Joe's students are rich, white, preppy kids who get everything from mommy and daddy.

Are the stereotypes accurate?

In some cases this stereotype is true, but for many other students, this is not an accurate reflection.

St. Joe's: The Big Picture

Saint Joe's is a great school, but it lacks the college town atmosphere. In visiting a lot of state schools, I have noticed that with everyone living in a more condensed area that there is more of a sense of it being a college community.

If you are looking for a school with a lot of school pride, this is the place to come. Saint Joseph's students are passionate in their pride.

St. Joe's Academic Life

I have loved the academic life at Saint Joe's. I've found many of my courses to be challenging, but rewarding. Because we are a liberal arts college, I have been forced to take many classes that I would have never chosen on my own. At first, I was very annoyed by this, but now as a graduating senior, I am grateful. Taking a wide selection of classes has helped to make me into a more well-rounded and knowledgeable person. The majority of my professors here have known me by name and have been incredibly helpful both in and out of the classroom. The only advice I have is not to rely on your adviser here, as most offer very little useful advice.

St. Joe's Student Body

Honestly, Saint Joe's is a mainly upper class, white campus, with many students from the tri-state region. Over the last four years, administration has been working on changing this, but as of yet, there has been little palpable change. However, I have seen an effort being made by both students and administration to make student differences more acceptable. Many student clubs have been working on becoming well-known and accepted for the minority students they represent.

St. Joe's Student Activities + Social Life

Drinking is big on the Saint Joe's campus. There are always little parties in the dorms, but watch out for RA's and security. If they bust you, everyone will get a good chuckle when the incidents of crime comes out in the weekly paper. The off-campus party scene has been going downhill in the last few years with neighbors being constantly annoyed and calling the police. The bar scene around Saint Joe's is huge.

The basketball games at Saint Joe's are one event that tons of students always attend. Other than that, it really depends on the event and student interest.
