Sarah Lawrence: The Big Picture
I'm going to focus on the drawbacks for now, because if you want to hear all the good stuff you can just surf the SLC website. I think the most frequent student complaints are about the obvious lack of socializing on campus. SLC students are not the most outgoing, friendly group, and it is rare for someone to say hello to you as they walk by (even if you two are the only ones on the street). There have even been facebook groups made that make fun of this attitude. There are almost no parties, and if there are, they involve a group of 10 or so friends just drinking together in a room, rather exclusively.

You will never have a teacher at SLC that doesn't know your name. In fact, they'll know your name, your hometown, your email address, phone number, your favorite books, what you did last weekend, and maybe even your social security number... SLC professors know their students, because they spend a lot of time getting to know them. Missing class is a big deal at SLC. If you miss more than 3 a semester, you'll lose credit for the class. If you do miss a class, you can almost certainly expect an email from your professor wondering if everything is okay. The classes are very small, and the students do a lot of talking. Professors are incredibly flexible at SLC, and are very understanding about late papers, poor test scores, missed conferences, etc.

Anyone who shops at American Apparel and can drop $40 on sushi in the city will fit in at SLC. The students here are RICH. Its not uncommon for an SLC student to go to Africa or Fiji for spring break, or to spend their summers in Europe. It's very frustrating coming from a lower middle class family and trying to fit in with students who have been traveling their entire lives, who drive minicoopers, and who have never worked a real job a day in their life. This is obviously a generalization, but I would say it is prevalent enough that it stands out.
