Notre Dame: The Big Picture
It's a medium sized school where you see people you know walking to class, but there are lots of people you don't know. The Catholic element is very present, and it's a great place to develop your spiritual life. It's fairly conservative socially both in the structure and the students. The student body is, on average, more athletic and interested in sports. It's very demanding academically, but you can grow so much if you want to.
Notre Dame Academic Life
The classes are very demanding, and taking 5 classes at one time can be extremely demanding. I often am very stressed to get all my work done, but the classes are very rewarding and I've grown immensely intellectually. The students are smart, but it's not a cuthroat atmosphere in terms of competition. In general, I've been a little dissapointed in how available the professors have been outside of class.
Notre Dame's Student Body
Very homogenous. The student body is overly Catholic, white, and upper-middle class. Fitting all of those categories, I can't say what it would be like for other students, but I imagine it would be a little disconcerting. Geographically, the student body is very diverse as there are students from all over the country.
Notre Dame Student Activities + Social Life
It's fairly conservative b/c of the structure. Parietals put a big obstacle up for social life on campus, and as a result a lot of the partying goes on off campus. Although drinking is fairly omnipresent, the drug scene is almost invisible if you want it to be that way. Sports are a big deal for activities as both intra and inter-dorm athletics are very popular.
