1. There's always some sort of protest/performance to raise awareness going on. Made me a much more worldly person because these topics are nearly always significant and done nonobstructively. 2. Diversity of student groups. There are booths everywhere and you'll always find a new club you haven't heard about. There's something for service (a lot, actually), for simply being nerdy, for interests such as kayaking. 3. The fashion. There's a good amount of people here who dress fantastically and unusually.

It really depends on what dorm you live in. I lived in Jester... the typical freshman dorm where the rooms are small with community bathrooms. But then my sophomore year I lived in Dobie, where I had a living area, private bath, and maids that cleaned once a week!

UT is very unique and very fun. Being located in the heard of Austin provides you with many fun things to do, like the drag, the stores on south congress and even Barton Springs pool and Zilker park. Also Austin has a diverse and huge music and concert scene for all kinds of music tastes. The professors at the University are very knowledgeable and make learning interesting and fascinating. There is a lot of school pride and on game day there is burnt orange everywhere. It's always fun to go tailgating and meet with fellow classmates and friends and cheer for the Longhorns. The school is large but I think it's a good thing because it allows you to make a lot of friends and to experience diversity and different cultures and learn from them.

Once you are on campus or near campus, you might say the Greek life is prominent at UT. However, something like 11% of the school population is involved with Greek life. There are too many organizations for one to be dominant.

Student orgs can range anywhere from reading clubs, political groups, dance teams, martial arts, poetry clubs, athletic clubs, Quidditch teams (yes, as in Harry Potter "flying broomsticks" Quidditch), religious groups, etc. Dorm life is great, especially for new students who want to make a lot of new friends, but off-campus life is great too! Athletic events are a pretty big deal at this school (Go Horns!), but if you're not into sports that's ok too! If you're a morning person, there are some pretty cool guys and gals hanging out in the coffee shops and grassy lawns on or near campus. If you're a night owl like myself, this city pretty much never sleeps (whether you stay up to study or stay up to party, you can always find a buddy to tag along with). If you're privileged enough to be 21 and up, 6th street is the place to be. But if you're not, there is (literally) a live music show somewhere in Austin every night, parties that are alcohol free, sporting events, and tons of outdoor activities (my favorite is climbing the local hills or paddleboarding on Town Lake). If you come to this university, make sure you do some exploring throughout downtown and the local communities, you'll be amazed at what you find.

To change the world, The University of Texas at Austin is the best place to start. The academic life at this institution is geared toward the acquisition of knowledge in order to better people as individuals, as well as to prepare them for what tough challenges lay ahead for our generation. From social work majors to biomedical engineering majors to political communications majors, everyone can expect to receive an education that goes beyond just "quality". Professors expect a lot out of their students and courses can be quite rigorous, but the professors are also more than willing to take the time in office hours or over email to help students go more in-depth into the material. Lower division classes provide students the opportunity to experience a typical lecture-style course, while upper division classes give students the specific attention they need, both to the relevant material of their major and to their learning process.

On average these groups of people just might come from more money, but I don't think everyone wants to just buy their friends. I have lots of friends that are in both organizational types, and I don't feel they are like that at all.

The most popular organizations are fraternities and sororities. Many students join one, and they are highly influential on campus. There are any number of activities on campus, however, and something for everyone.

Depending on the people you speak to, some students are more social then others. It seems that the more social a person is, the more involved they are in school activities. I for one am very involved with intramurals and making sure to play and lift weights on a daily basis so many of my friends are from that social scene.

the school is huge but everyone seems to like it. austin is definitely a college town and 6th street is very popular once you turn 21. lot's of school pride and everyone goes to football games. there is a large liberal population on campus so beware

Academics are top notch.

classes are interesting. i wish i had more time to take classes for fun and for my own learning enjoyment. i think the academics are a good balance between challenging and having fun.
