Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (formerly Albany College of Pharmacy) is a private, independent college dedicated to the advancement of health. The college has campuses in Albany, New York and Colchester, Vermont.

History

Founded in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is New York State's oldest pharmacy college and one of the only private, independent pharmacy schools in the United States.

ACPHS has a long history of serving its students and health care professionals as one of the premier pharmacy colleges in the nation. With about 1,500 students and growing rapidly, the College prepares students for licensure and rewarding careers in a number of fields as it enters a new era of health care, focusing not only on pharmacy, but also on pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical technology and research.

Located in the New Scotland section of New York state's capital city, ACPHS is at the heart of a world of opportunity - surrounded by its academic neighbors Albany Law School, Albany Medical College and Sage College of Albany, as well as the Wadsworth Center's David Axelrod Institute and the Center for Medical Science.

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences opened a satellite campus in Colchester, Vermont (near Burlington) in fall 2009 that will enroll approximately 280 Doctor of Pharmacy students once it is fully implemented by the 2012-13 academic year.

ACPHS includes two research institutes. The Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI) is a research-and-development facility dedicated to a three-pronged business development model focused on research, pharmaceutical services and education. PRI includes the Center for Nanopharmaceuticals, a state-of-the-art facility that plays a leading role[citation needed] in the development of technologies that will allow the delivery of medicine to specific cellular targets within the body.

The Research Institute for Health Outcomes (RIHO) studies the economics of health care and areas such as comparative effectiveness research.

The college expanded its name from "Albany College of Pharmacy" to "Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences" on October 16, 2008 to better reflect its range of degree programs.
