What are some stereotypes about Babson students?

Babson students are very focused on Business. They are always talking about what is going on in the market place. Many students have started their own businesses or are working on writting business plans. Babson is very diverse and has students from all over. Babson students work hard, and have time to have fun in Boston as well. I would say the typical Babson student is very involved in the community, and takes pride in knowing that they are contributing to the generations to come.

Are the stereotypes accurate?

These stereotypes are very accurate. From being involved the past 4 years, I can attest to Babson's over active lifestyle that many students lead. Everyone learns how to balance work and extra curricular activities. Its about time management.

Babson: The Big Picture

Babson is just right. It is big enough where you will not see the same person day-day, but small enough where you will see that person sometime during the week. Most people from NY do not know about Babson. However, the people who do are very impressed with Babson's business reputation. I spend most of my time on the computer in class, or at the gym. Everyone at Babson has their own computer. I think that this is great. We all can help each other out when we have computer problems, and it really makes it a lot easier to learn and communicate with everyone. I would say that babson is not located in a "college town". It is 7 miles outside of Boston. I think it is great because it is easy to get distracted as it is being on campus with all of the speakers, and great activities Babson offers. However, if Babson was in Boston I don't think the community would be as strong as it is. Babsons administration is awesome. They are very caring and business driven as the students. Many faculty have started their own business and are very passionate about teaching. I can not think of the a controversy on campus. I remember last year there was black face incident, and everyone ralllyed together as ONE BABSON. It was amazing. There is a TON of school pride. Beaver Nation is what the student body calls themselves. At games there is a beaver den, and shirts/memoriablia is handed out at almost every game. Babson is truely about BUSINESS. I have learned more about large corporations from Wal-Mart --Dell--Xorex--small startups from financials to marketing to operations to culture in these companies. We have studied them inside and out, and I couldn't have asked for a better education. One expereince I'll always remember is the BBQs outside of my tower were we lived. Every night we would be outside grilling if it was nice out. The frequent complaints about Babson is that the dinning hall is not that great. I can attest that it is hard to eat healthy when you have soo much freedom! I think that Babson should offer educational eating classes!! They have a nutrionist that is FREE but it is not marketed that well.

Babson Academic Life

Professor do know my name! They come to games, and followed my basketball carreer which was so nice. My fav. class is Entrepenuership in family business. It was amazing. It was like Trumps show, but you competed on teams against your peers with one CEO. This was very competitve and your grade was based on presentations and clear communications. I love working in groups and doing consulting projects. Class participation is about 30% of your grade usually. Babson students have intellectual conversastions ALL THE TIME outside of the class room. It is hard to get away from. When I go home my parents become easily annoyed with me because of the way I view issues. Students are VERY VERY competitive. I am a strategic Management concentration and entrepenurship. I do spend time with professors outside of the class room. I would say Babson teaches you how to work on team on group projects, and how to learn how to manage people. The academic requiremnts I feel are great. I learned about art, antropology of food, and religion! Babson is geared toward getting a job. However it is easier for accountants to get jobs here. If you are marketing or Entrepenurship it can be more work.

Babson's Student Body

Babson student body is united. Most students dress nice to class. I wear sweatpants, it really doesn't matter. We are all here for one reason, to better ourselves and get an iducation. Everyone interacts with one another. Babson is mostly group work. One table in the dinning hall has the athletes, one has the greeks, one has the freshman and the other a mix of people. Most students are from new england area I'd say, and are wealthy. Students are VERY politically aware and active. Students do talk about how much they will earn and I personally hope to be a millionare by the age of 23.

Babson Student Activities + Social Life

I am involved with Sigma Kappa. Students do not leave their dorm room doors open. If you are in organizational housing then of course, but not in the big big dorms. Athletic events are very popular, and so are guest speakers. Babson just had a beauty and the beast producation and it broke sales records. Dating scene is okay. There are a lot of focused business MEN. Everyone goes to pub on campus on Thursday nights. On friday there is live music. People party a good amount. I party almost every night. Try to take m-w off. Greek life I feel is VERY important. There is a sense of community within itself and you get to meet upclassment and underclassmen, expecially boys! Last weekend I went to a mixer with a fraternitie, played in a beer pong tournment, went into Boston for lunch, worked on some homework, went to the dance ansemble, played basketball, watched basketball and more school owrk. On a Saturday night you can go into boston see a game, play, go to a museum, hear a lecture, and see a comedy show. Off campus I work, and shop. hehe.

Babson Naked Truth

What I have said above does not even compare to BABSON. Babson is a great place. I would love to talk more about it if anyone was interested! nmcmanus1@babson.edu
