Baylor: The Big Picture
Baylor... home of the rich, the white and the clueless. The only thing that i enjoy about Baylor is their academic program. The politics, the presumptions, and the copious amounts of ridiculous rules.... not so wonderful.
I spend as much time OFF the campus as I can, dont get me wrong, it is beautiful and well kept... but i have no desire to spend any more time being judged by my peers than is necessary.
The town sucks, there arent that many good places to go out, there arent really any good places period.
I love Baylor because i know that i am getting a good education, but i wish that i would have done more research before moving across the country to go here.... i dont think that it is as good of a fit as another college might have been.
Baylor Academic Life
Some professors are AMAZING, they know who you are, the care about your life and what things might be going on with you. But just like anything, there are the bad ones. The profs that think that JUST because they are profs that are are automatically almighty and powerful and dont give a hoot what you think.
Baylor is about learning for its own sake i think. There are 'job fairs' every now and again, but Baylor isnt really known for one department over another... nothing stands out academically to me.
Baylor's Student Body
There are more white than any other race, and not by a hair. Baylor is the 'whitest' southern school i have ever seen. There are more women than men, almost 65% female population.
Class is laid back. You can wear whatever you want... most wear what appears to be what they slept in the night before.
Students at Baylor try to be politically active in national politics and also in our local student government.... im not sure what the student government does.... i dont evenr know who they are.... if that says anything.
Baylor Student Activities + Social Life
FOOTBALL is an amazing experience even when we're not winning!!
I wouldnt leave your dorm room unlocked... someone WILL steal your things... probably your room-mate.
Dating... well if you are an ignorant girl looking for a drunk frat guy... this is the place for you!
There are some pretty cool traditional things that go on... but thats really only for Freshman, and the rest of the student body has better things to do.
Frats and sororities are popular, just like anywhere. I think its stupid to pay for friends... how sad is it that you have to join a club and do dumb things to yourself during RUSH to find friends on a campus for more than 20,000 people... seems like a social issue to me.... maybe they need counseling... or a hug!
Baylor Naked Truth
I think that Baylor is a great academic institution. I love going to class, i love interacting with my educated classmates. I love the Texas weather and the people. Sometimes i wish that there werent rules for what someone can and cannot do in their own home... rules for what time you have to be home.... jkust rules that are worse than the ones your parents gace you when you were 12. BAylor wants their students to be sheltered for the real world... but reality is that a sickening amount of students die or kill themselves each year, studetns get robbed, car jacked, shot at, raped... and whatever else happen.... just like it happens anywhere else in the world.
Your not any safer because you go to the conservative southern baptist school, if anything, you are more at risk because they fail to let their students have enough freedom to learn about what life is... and unfortuantely, most never do, and they are the ones targeted and the ones who usually dont know what danger is.
