Carleton: The Big Picture
For me, the best part of Carleton College is the wide arrangement of activities open to students. In bigger schools, staff writer positions at the school newspaper and a place on the lacrosse team are too competitive. Moreover, Carleton students usually do not criticize someone who tries something new and isn't very good at it. Consequently, Carleton students are free to try activities they were to afraid to try before. I think that is pretty cool.
Personally, I like Northfield. I think is nice, comfortable, and quaint. With this essence, everyone has their personal favorite spot whether it be Hogan Brothers or Blue Mondays.
On the administration point, I think the Carleton administration takes too much flack for being filled with a bunch of WASPs. However, I think they have done their best to promote diversity and to cater to the needs of Carleton students.
Carleton Academic Life
I think the rigorous academic reputation of Carleton is overstated. I don't find my self doing that much homework, and I'm passing all my courses. Maybe it is hard to get A's at Carleton, but it's not hard to pass.
I think it quite clear that Carleton education does give you marketable skills. This is a point of contention amongst Carleton students. My feeling on this is that when someone attends a liberal arts school, it is not going to be anything like a trade school. Carleton College teaches its students analytical skills, which is important for many jobs. Carleton will not teach you how to replace a muffler.
Carleton's Student Body
The Carleton student body is divided into nerds and smart, but generally normal, people. Yet, what is great about Carleton College is that these two groups of people seem to live harmoniously with each other. I once saw a football All-American have a seemingly enjoyable conservation with a complete physics nerd, and I was probably the only person that found it a little weird. Moreover, I never heard of a Carleton bully.
Carleton Student Activities + Social Life
I think there is plenty of activities for the non-drinkers: Weekend movie showings, plays, concerts, and dances.
And plenty of activities for drinkers: by this, I mean there is no shortage of liqour at Carleton College.
Carleton Naked Truth
Although there are some elitist stiffs, this generally is great place to live and learn. What more can you ask of a college?
