Baruch: The Big Picture
Baruch is a school that's located near everything in New York City. Two blocks from the 6 train is a great deal. People at Baruch tend to be very driven because everyone here is here to earn their degree. Even in the prerequisite classes, the students tend to excel in and participate. I have participated in some very heated and educated arguments here and that makes learning much more exciting.
I also spend a lot of time in the "Honors Lounge", or the 3rd floor of the Annex Building because that is where my academic advisers are located and a lounge is right next to it.
I have joined a club named AIESEC which is a global organization. I can't go into it that much because there is not enough room here for me to expand on how its changed my life. It is an organization that brings together the business-side of me and the global citizen in me.
Baruch Academic Life
Students are driven to succeed at Baruch. Business majors tend to have that mindset. But, I find that my classes are interesting and engaging. Professors know your name if you make the effort in class to participate. I tend to participate a lot and so professors have usually caught my name and even stopped me in the halls to talk and get to know me beyond the classroom.
Baruch has some strict GPA requirements, especially for the Honors Program because in order to maintain your scholarship you must keep a 3.55 GPA or something around that. However, Baruch well prepares you for the business world. The classes are great in business and really prepare you well for a career in the field.
Baruch's Student Body
Baruch is a VERY VERY diverse school. When you come through the doors, you will blend into a population of all different colors, religions, and backgrounds. A lot of people are middle class and work hard to earn their money. Students tend to dress fashionably and neatly. There are also those who work at firms and companies already so its not unusual that 40% of the people that walk around are sporting business suits and work wear.
There are the occasional sweats but this is not a residential college and people tend to care a lot about how they look.
Politically, its very diverse...Basically, Baruch is a great reflection of the diversity that can be found only in New York City.
