What are some stereotypes about William & Mary students?

We're smart but we don't like to party.

Are the stereotypes accurate?

The frats probably suck- don't know, never been- but there are definitely house parties. Its true a lot of kids here would rather stay in and watch a disney movie on a friday night, but if you want to hang out, there are definitely opportunities.

William & Mary: The Big Picture

This place is pretty depressing. Adjustment can be extremely difficult. Sticking it out can also be really rewarding though.

William & Mary Academic Life

Academics is definitely the strong point of W&M. I have been to see all of my professors outside of class, they all know my name. I've even had professors email me about research opportunities (over the summer) and really go out of their way to get me involved in things they think I could benefit from. I've had professors ask me to do independents studies with them as my adviser because they knew I was really interested in something. The professors here are just really amazing. Pretty much, they get to know you and then do everything they can to help you.

William & Mary's Student Body

There are a lot of really socially conscious kids here. There isnt a lot of prejudice here, and if it becomes an issue, we are definitely a campus that then schedules a million different speakers and debates to address it. There is not a lot of ignorant hatred here.
Also, kids who tend to align themselves with different groups are very likely to interact. We're generally a pretty tolerant campus.

William & Mary Student Activities + Social Life

Never been to a frat, only been to one football game.
This weekend I'm going to a pro choice potluck, last weekend I went to a house show/party, a radio station dance party. Every so often a weekend comes around where not a lot is going on, but overall its not too bad.

William & Mary Naked Truth

In the beginning I hated this place worse than anything.

I'd say the more you get involved in things you really love, the happier you'll be. We're all pretty academic at heart, so take advantage of clubs and groups that you feel passionately about. That can be a really good social outlet.

You learn a lot about yourself here, good and bad.

William and Mary is a small public school, mostly for undergraduates, which is remarkable by itself. Most students like the small-school atmosphere, especially when it comes to class size. The...
