What are some stereotypes about FIU students?

commuter, latin, slackers, apathetic, not as smart us UM/UF/UCF, etc.

Are the stereotypes accurate?

At times, but i like to think i've met a lot of people who disprove it

FIU: The Big Picture

Most people have no faith in FIU, but it's really accomplished a lot in a short time. People who do hang out on campus stay around GC. It's tough to get people involved at such a big school in the middle of a big city. Most people have "better things to do." I wish more of the student body had school spirit and cared to get involved. If our athletics improve as much as they say they will, I think that would have a huge impact.

FIU Academic Life

I've rarely taken classes that were too big for the professor not to know everyone's name. Then again, I'm an English major, and it's usually math and science classes that are big...I love classes where students are able to openly discuss topics, and that's become more common now that I'm in upper level classes. I really think the education offered is of higher merit than people give it credit for. Maybe it's because I use ratemyprofessor.com to its fullest potential, but I've always had wonderful professors that I learned a lot from and engaged my interest.

FIU's Student Body

I don't think anyone would feel out of place at FIU, cause I've seen everything here. People wear, listen to, do, and are interested in all sorts of things. Most people, I'd say, or lower middle class and live in Miami. People talk about money all the time. I don't really see too much interaction across social groups.

FIU Student Activities + Social Life

I'm in a sorority and I think it's safe to say that Greeks are the most involved. unfotunately, it's a very small percentage of the student body. I know there's a lot of events going on but i dont think people attend them as much as they should. There's definitely a lot of partying...other than going out to a club/bar/friend's house to drink, you can go see a movie, play pool (but this often involves drinking as well!)...well, usually people involve drinking with everything. lol

FIU Naked Truth

This was pretty thorough!

In Closing ...

lack of school spirit
