Lafayette College Summary

What's this?
Lafayette College preserves a rich sense of history while giving students a cutting-edge, forward-thinking liberal arts education.
Academics are split into four divisions: natural sciences, humanities, engineering, and social sciences. Lafayette's engineering, math, and science programs are top-notch, and the college boasts one of the highest numbers of Goldwater Scholarship winners in the country over the last six years. Located in eastern Pennsylvania, Lafayette is surrounded by dozens of other institutions of higher learning, and its historic rivals include nearby Lehigh, Bucknell, and Princeton. In fact, Lehigh and Lafayette share one of the oldest rivalries in college football, and the annual football match-up is one of the high points of the Lafayette experience.

Debate is lively on campus, and not just within its popular debate club -- Lafayette's student body builds a vibrant community through involvement in athletics, politics, and other organizations. Among those are the Greeks, who hold significant sway over the social scene. Nearly 30 percent of students belong to a sorority or fraternity, although its members are quick to point out that they're just as interested in supporting a worthy cause as they are throwing a wild party.
