Consultation Timeline

In August, You Should...
Talk with a Counselor about:
  • Speak with a college counselor to create a list of colleges that might be right for you. Work together to figure out what you're looking for in a school -- do you want it to be big or small? Urban or rural? Competitive or laid back? There are more than 4,000 colleges in America, and our counselors will help you find schools that match your personality and ambitions.
  • Discuss your career plans with a counselor and learn about colleges that have matching and innovative curriculums.
  • Work with a counselor to set up a personal admissions calendar so you don't miss any deadlines and stay ahead of other applicants.
  • Find out the best ways to prepare for the SAT/ACT based on your learning style and budget.
  • Get help selecting an impressive fall semester class schedule that will "wow" admissions offices.
Talk with a Student about:
  • Speak with a college student at each of the schools that interest you. Ask them to describe a typical student, to talk about classes and life on campus, and listen to the best and worst aspects of their college experience to help guide you in your search.
  • Ask students majoring in the academic areas you're interested in what their professors, classmates and workloads are really like.
  • Thinking of visiting a college? Talk to a student first and find out what you'll never see on a campus tour (but should know about before you arrive on campus.) What should you ask your tour guide that they might not bring up on their own?
  • When talking to students, ask them where else they applied. Are there other schools that aren't on your radar -- but should be?
  • Find out how current college students navigated the college admissions process. Hear what they would have done differently in their college search. How did they stay organized, what tools did they use to save time and money?
