Mt. Holyoke: The Big Picture
People don't seem to realize what a great school this is. It was the first women's college in the country, and hopefully will always remain single-sex. In terms of statistics it doesn't seem like it is hard to get into, but not as many women apply to women's colleges as it may seem. It is very cool because our campus is very politically active and socially aware, but sometimes this can cause controversies. There are the people who are trying to kick Coke off our campus, and those who just like the taste of Coke. People are generally respectful so it doesn't create a lot of hostility or anything, but I do think sometimes being "politically correct" is taken to an extreme here. You just have to take it all in stride and make your own decisions. It is a great place to live, eat, and study - you have access to so many resources.
Mt. Holyoke Academic Life
This is not an easy school. You should never be bored here. Teachers here are very friendly and accessible, but have high expectations for you. The academic atmosphere is so different from that of my high school, where only the "nerds" were motivated to get good grades and excel. Here, everyone works, and works hard. For a while,I found all the intelligent people I was surrounded by to be intimidating, until I realized that I was capable of all the same achievements. During finals all the stress can be stifling, because we all care so much about our grades and doing well in classes. However, that does not mean that we don't have crazy parties or don't know how to have fun!
Mt. Holyoke's Student Body
I love having a diverse student body. Within the first semester of school I made friends from all over the country and the world. I would never have had access to these intelligent women if Mount Holyoke wasn't invested in creating a diverse campus. Everyone dresses differently, speaks differently, and believes different things. It is refreshing.
Mt. Holyoke Student Activities + Social Life
It is a good thing that we are part of the Five College Consortium, because without access to activities and parties at other schools our own parties would get a little repetitive. While they are fun and crazy, it is important to leave campus and get to know people at other schools, and be exposed to different environments. That being said, we have some really well-known parties. Las Vegas Night is the most famous, probably followed by Undressage. People, guys especially, flock toour school for these events, and they are a lot of fun.
