Pepperdine: The Big Picture
Pepperdine is religious, there's no getting past that. However, while you have to go to convos and stuff, its not that big of a deal. They have a bunch of religious opportunities if you want, but f you dont want to have the religious side of it, you don't really have to. Parking is a bitch... no other way to put it. Campus size is good, you see new people but you see you friends a lot walking past. The good thing about walking is that you can walk almost everywhere on campus since its somewhat small, but its hilly and seems like a lot of walking at first. There really isn't all that much to do in Malibu, but Santa Monica is down the coast about half an hour and USC and UCLA are about the same to drive to. Pepperdine administration can be really close-minded, but you dont encounter conflicts that much. Greek life is big, along with a few of the sports. The people are generally cool.
Pepperdine Academic Life
Class sizes are relatively small, except for Elkins Auditorium classes. I'd say that while there are hard classes, the load isn't usually overbearing (except science majors sometimes). Professors are usually nice and sometimes funny, like Professor Soper and Professor Sexton. Most of them are more than willing to help students outside of the class and/or have tutors. A lot of them have party's at their houses and you can eat with them at the Caf. I'd rate academics high, with criteria being amount learned, enjoyment level, available help, etc. If you aren't religious, convocation gets to be annoying. However, the grade for convo hardly affects your GPA and only counts for Pepperdine GPA, not for grad school or anything... so if you want an easy A, go for it, if not, dont worry about it.
Pepperdine's Student Body
, Atheist friends, all types. Most people have some money because its an expensive private school, and there's quite a few that are loaded... but you dont really feel pressured to have money and the kids don't act snobby. Greek life is big and a lot of people participate, but quite a few aren;t. Everyone interacts for the most part. There's a lot of opportunities for politics, religious, volunteer work... little bit of everything.
Pepperdine Student Activities + Social Life
My favorite part.... There's athletic events and theater events. Although its not a huge part of social life because of lack of a football team. Social life is there if you want it. Parties are generally controlled by the Lacrosse, Waterpolo, and fraternities (usually the one that parties the most - right now Beta). The only thing you have to worry about is coming back on campus drunk. Don't let campus security see you and do not drive drunk, of course for safety reasons but also because chances are you'll get caught and they're strict). The good part.. there's a lot of people with houses off-campus and its usually a quick walk to your dorm as long as you have a DD to get you back on campus. Opposite sex has to be out of your room by 1, out of the dorm by 2.. but there's no curfew and most RA's don't check up on you too often... mine didn't at all. Like I said.... not much to do in Malibu besides party. Either go to the beach, stay on campus and do stuff, or drive to Santa Monica. Good thing about SoCal is that you can drive to a lot of fun places, both for clean entertainment or partying.
Pepperdine Naked Truth
Our mascot is retarded. Overall, I'd say if you want to come to Pepperdine but are worried about things, you'll probably end up liking it here. The abroad program is big here, probably about half of the students go abroad in their sophomore year... either for a semester or the whole year. Most people move off-campus either sophomore or junior year, but there's more secluded apartments for upperclassmen on campus too.
