What are some stereotypes about St. Joe's students?

Private School Kids, stuck up, materialistic, and more focused on parties

Are the stereotypes accurate?

well the private school and public school ratio is almost half and half.
materialistic- yeah a little but there are a lot of kids that come from wealthy familes but its not everyone
IT COLLEGE OF COURSE WE"RE GOING TO PARTY, but one thing that is so great about sju is that Service is not madatory but at some point with in your st.joes career you will give back to the community... IT"S GREAT!

St. Joe's: The Big Picture

St. Joes is the perfect medium size school with about 1000 kids per class! A lot of kids come from Maryland, Virgina, Pennslyvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Massachutes. Anyone outside those states usually dont really know about st.joes unless they follow basketball. BASKETBALL is huge! there is a lot o school spirit in sports and pride in the school in general! There is not so much a college town but a college city, ten minute drive to villanova and Philadelphia University and a train ride into the city for upenn, drexel, temple etc. There are lot of bars and fun places to go ( comedy clubs, museums, shopping at King of Prussia and Outlets) its amazing! St. Joes is located on City Ave which is a much more suburban part of philadelphia but your only a train ride or 15 minute drive from center city! Also i abslolutly love Greek Life! its not a huge part of the school atmosphere but we have such a great time together ( we are about 14% of school population) and do service and social events!

St. Joe's Academic Life

Intro classes that all majors have to take are usually your largest classes at like 40 at most and the more specific major classes will get closer to 20 or smaller! Professors know your name and attendance is close to mandatory in everyclass. There is the chance of failing due to attendance and that is usually around 6 unexcused absences. Dont worry the nurse will right you absent notes! The marketing department is one of largest departments on campus with the ability to be a pharmecutical, food marketing of general marketing major with tracks in communications or sports and entertainment. The marketing department has created a record label titled the hawk will never die records. They sign artisit and manage their music careers its a really cool experince and its apart of the music marketing class. Theology and Philophy classes SUCK... but oh well every takes them and everyone hates them. some professors are really cool especially the jesuit priests the coolest teachers and individuals you will ever meet... they give me faith in the catholic church. There are huge career fairs and networking nights for every major!

St. Joe's Student Body

St. Joes is getting more diverse, but is still majority middle upperclass white kids. For the surrounding states touching pennslyvania or north east coast. A lot of different student interact especially when people get involved with service. Their is amix of right and left wings all through out campus.

St. Joe's Student Activities + Social Life

My sorority is my favorite organization.... greek life is different here. Its nothing like the southern school you hear about. We dont have houses or a frat row... we just hang out and enjoy each others company. We live togther on or off campus, we got out or host parties. We do serivce and philanthropy. We are competitve during greek week which is like spirit week or night in highschool with games and chants and songs all week. Dating here is interesting since st. joes takes pride in the fact that some large percantage like 40% of st. joes students marry someone from st. joes "hawk mates" as they like to call it... but most of my friends and myself have relationships long distance out of school. Their is alot of hooking up and at the bars on college nights there is a lot mixing with the other philly schools. Myt clostest friends are in my sorority i dont know what i would do with out them. If its 2 in the morning their is always larry cheesesteaks across the street from school! On a saturday night you can go to campus and there is always sober events being hosted until 2 am!

In Closing ...

What's the worst thing about St. Joe?
Security is really strict when you live on campus, move off as soon as your a junior DONT STAY ON CAMPUS

What's the best thing about St. Joe?
Your Friends, the bars, sororites, and all the new projects and new part of campus!

The best thing about St. Joe's is how much of a community atmosphere has been built here. I transferred from George Washington University because I felt lost in the school,...

St. Joe's is small and personal which makes getting to know people and making friends very easy; that is definitely one of the best things about the school. It's small,...
