I love UConn. I didn't know where I wanted to go to college and when I decided to attend UConn I hadn't even visited it yet. The campus is large and beautiful. There are many quiet spots that you can get peace of mind and relax. I like to sit by one of the tow lakes on a nice day or go for a walk. The school pride is one of my favorite parts. Everything has a Husky on it or is white and blue. The sporting events are fun, energetic and make you proud to go to UConn. This campus is in itself a little town. People complain about the dining hall food even thought we have more than six to choose from and that it's windy and cold for about 6 months out of the school year.

The most popular student groups are probably the ones that are formed in the cultural centers. We have cultural centers ranging from those for Asian Americans to Puerto Rican and Latin Americans to African Americans, as well as centers for LGBT students, women and international students. Centers like ASACC (asian american cultural center) have a lot of related clubs, such as Japanese Students Association and Korean Student's association (open to anyone interested, not just people of those ethnicities).

Classes are huge, especially freshmen year. If you want to remain anonymous, it's easy to just be known as a test average to your professor. But every professor has office hours where they can get to know you and learn your name. As finals get closer, the library becomes a little more cramped but there's always a place to study, whether it's the library, dorm room, or study lounge.

I think the largetst organization on campus right now is the ski and snow boarding club. I am personally involved with the African Students Association, some volunteering groups, a member of the National Society of collegiate scholars uconn chapter and also the president of the Nubian Foxes dance group; There are so many events that take place from comedy shows to games to internship fairs and motivational speakers.

Greek life, varsity, club, and intramural sports, clubs, volunteering, and the student government as well as its various committees are very popular on campus. I don't think I've met someone who isn't involved in one of the things above. As you can expect, athletic events are HUGE on campus, particularly football and basketball games. The Student Government always has comedians and guest speakers (this week we had Billy Joel!) so if that's more your speed there are events for you! On the weekends, you'll see students heading over to Carriage Apartments, Huskies Bar, Ted's Bar, or Thirsty's Bar. if you aren't into going out, the Student Union has a late night every friday that has free giveaways and karaoke; it's actually really popular! Basically, a UConn student works hard during the week then parties hard Thursday-Saturday.

There are so many clubs on campus, I wouldn't even know where to begin describing them. If you can think of it, there is a club for it. If there isn't, you can make your own! I am part of an acapella group and I teach exercise classes for our gym. Depending on the time of day, where you live, and how much studying there is to do, people leave their doors open. Athletic events are very popular. There are many guest speakers/performers/shows/concerts going on here. I met my closest friends in the dorm, because as a freshman many people are willing to meet new friends and leave their doors open. My friends and I go out once or twice a week. Some people never go out and some people go out almost every night. Fraternities and sororities are present on campus but not too important. UConn offers alternatives to going out every weekend at late night. There is a bunch of free stuff/crafts. We have a movie theater with free or two dollar movies. They also offer bus trips to malls and NYC and Boston.

At UConn not a lot of the professors know your name. However, this depends on your major. UConn is divided up into several colleges: School of Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy,Education and Liberal Arts and Sciences. Once you get into one of those colleges it is your job to develop a relationship with your Adviser and your professors. At the beginning classes will be up to 200 - 400 students. As you get deeper into your major the classes will be smaller. I am personally a Computer Science and Engineering Major. All my classes regarding my major have been relatively small. This give me time to actually go to the professors office hours and ask questions. At UConn, there is a lot of possibility to do research because we are a research based school.In the long run you wanna chose what you want and like to learn instead of learning something just because of the income.it will bring.

As a freshman I'm taking a lot of advanced courses (organic chemistry, 3000-level French, Advanced Calculus) and I'm bored to tears. I find myself so under-challenged here that I've had difficulty remaining engaged with the material to the point that my parents are concerned that I won't finish the semester. I was doing more difficult work my freshman year of high school.

Uconn is way too large. I have had a lot of problems getting into classes that I need because they fill so fast. Many classes have 100+ people in them and you do not get to know your professors at all. Socially, due to being such a large school it is hard to form lasting friendships from year to year because you are costantly placed in different groups in such a large amount of people.

There is always something to do on campus. Every Friday night the student union hosts Late Night and they have different activities such as karaoke, mechanical bull riding, bungee run, oxygen bars, get your picture on a chocolate lolipop, and many more. Also there is a theater on campus and the movies they play are fairly new.

Professors will know your name if you go to office hours, if you dont, then they have no way of knowing you. You also have Teachers aides in discussion sections and they will most likely know you because they are they ones that grade you and often times attendence and participation play a role in your grade for the discussion portion of class. My favorite class was sociology 107 because it was easy, yet interesting, and I got a W class overwith. My least favorite class is economics because it is very challanging and you not only have to memorize concepts, but you need to understand them. The Teachers aides in economics are also generally foreign so they tend to be difficult to understand. I study all day everyday, with the exception of a few hours here and there and weekend nights.

UConn is a big school, which may be intimidating to some people. However, you find you niche - your group of friends, organizations or clubs you belong too, people you live with - and it becomes smaller. The nice thing about the size is, if you don't want to run into someone, chances are you won't. You can always meet new people, whereas at a small school you meet everyone in 2 weeks and that is that. Also, big schools have more to offer - more majors, activites, sports, etc.

I am not particularily religious, so its really hard since i live on a floor where there are VERY religious people. Dont get me wrong, I will always respect ones beliefs and ideals, but many of the people on my floor are persistent, and often bring their religions randomly during conversation, so it makes it slightly uncomfortable. And whats with the random people in the Student Union badgering people all the time about religion. I was once trapped in the corner of a doorway while two extremely religious foreigners talked to me about a Mother God, it was very awkward. Most people dress normally. Many of the students that come here are from New England. Most are middle-upper class (unlike me). Most of my friends are politically aware, many are very excited about the upcoming election. Most of my friends are liberal.

My largest class has been over 250 and my smallest about 8...it really depends what class you take and how often it is offered. I would say about 5% of my professors have known my name during my time here...not many TA's (teaching assistants) knew my name in discussion sections either...It is incredibly optional whether you want to go to class or not but as i have learned the more often you go the better. I do have to study a lot outside of class...basically every night for a few hours...everyone here seems to either be really smart or an athlete...I'm an HDFS major (Human Development and Family Studies) and the classes I've taken thus far have interesting titles but seem to be lackluster in content. The most interesting class I've taken here is yoga and the least is probably history or english. I think UConn's academic requirements for graduation are incredibly fair and pretty easy to accomplish in 4 years if you have your act together. I feel like I have learned a good amount but I'm not entirely sure if I'm ready to translate all that into a career...but these days getting your undergrad is like getting a high school diploma...so do good as an undergrad then shoot for grad school. UConn is a good place to do that.

to a degree. There's so many people, there are those that go out every night. But there are the studious type, too, and everything in between.

UConn overall was a great university. There isn't much to do after classes, but uconn's working on it. They have been trying to get students more involved but at times you just want to get the hell out of school related and take a drink. There is a ton of school pride, we have a bunch of sports we are top in the nation, we have a college radio station anyone can join, overall it's not just sports though. There's a ton of clubs from Skydiving to apple picking.

Social sciences department gets no funding and is completely ignored at the University. If you're doing business, you'll do extremely well!

The best thing about UConn is the diversity. There are so many different sorts of people who attend. Its a large school which makes it great for meeting and getting to know many different types of people. Most of my time on campus is spent in my dorm complex. I love knowing everyone I'm living with. School Pride at uconn is HUGE! everyone loves attending sporting events and it is so much fun to participate in campus wide activities.
