University of Illinois Springfield Summary
What's this?
The University of Illinois Springfield is a unique public liberal arts university best known for its professional and public affairs programs.
Originally Sangamon State University, UIS was incorporated into the University of Illinois system in 1995 and today offers 22 full-fledged, four-year undergraduate degree programs. While the school continues to grow, its small student body (fewer than 3,000 undergrads) has built a cozy community. Though some traditional college activities—like football and Greek life—don't currently have a presence on campus, there's plenty to do, from athletics to musical performances, and students are encouraged to start clubs if their interests aren't met. Classes are intimate, allowing for lots of personalized attention. And though students lament parking difficulties on campus, they love that they're receiving a University of Illinois degree at such a low cost.
