Wabash Information

Wabash History

Wabash College was founded on November 21, 1832. The school's first faculty member was Caleb Mills, a graduate of Dartmouth College and Andover Seminary, who arrived in 1833 and immediately set the tone for the school. In addition to his work at Wabash, Mills helped establish the Indiana public school system and made it his mission to improve educational standards throughout the Mississippi Valley.

Despite Mills' affiliation with the Presbyterian church, Wabash College has always been independent and non-sectarian. The school was modeled after New England's liberal arts colleges. Mills declared that the college's goal was to promote learning, virtue, and service among its students.

More about Wabash

Wabash Dorms

Wabash has four residence halls: Martindale Hall, Wolcott Hall, Morris Hall, and College Hall. Students who pledge one of Wabash's ten fraternities usually live in the chapter house. A fair percentage of Wabash students also elect to move into one of the kind-of off-campus apartments owned and operated by the college.
