What are some stereotypes about Wesleyan students?

That we're all a bunch of liberal hippies.

Are the stereotypes accurate?

We are very liberal. Not them many of us are really hippies.

Wesleyan: The Big Picture

Wesleyan is a school full of truly engaged students. Students are very progressive, politically involved and active in a whole variety of extracurricular activities including the arts (particularly film), comedy, theater, and many, many others. Students are also an extremely intellectual group, meaning they are very intellectually engaged outside of the classroom. Classes are small, and for the most part Wesleyan students are extremely happy at the school.

Wesleyan Academic Life

Wesleyan academic environment is very open. There are no true requirements, only general expectations about what classes students must take, and most students easily fulfill them. Students are extremely intellectual and class discussions often carry over outside of class. Classes are small, professors are very engaged with their students and students take academics seriously but without being competitive with each other.

Wesleyan's Student Body

Wesleyan students are politically progressive intellectuals. They are generally fairly wealthy. There is fair percentage of the student body that are students of color, a high percentage of LGBT students, and very few conservatives, "jocks," or stereotypical college "frat boy" types.

Wesleyan Student Activities + Social Life

Political, LGBT, comedy, artistic, athletic and musical groups all have significant participation on campus. Nearly all students participate in some kind of extracurricular group. Artistic events, performances, film screenings and academic talks/lectures are far more widely attended than athletic events. Students party fairly frequently, mostly in house parties.
