Make sure its the college that you think is going to be right for you. The college that you want to go to might have everything but its usually the college that you least expect that is correct college for you. Im the type of persont that was used to city life and thought that I was going to be going to another big city school, but I actually enjoy being at a not to big not to small college that is sorrounded by alot of history.

Like many other college students I am attending college to better myself and to obtain a degree. the advice i would give to them is to work hard for what you want. the best college for someone is one that will benefit them throughout life even after graduating. the best way to find the college for you is to know information about that school and know wht type of things you look for in a school. once you attend college you should make the most of all of your experiences because these are things that you will remember for the rest of you of life. you should also make friends beacuse these people will also be apart of you life.

My grades in high school didn't make me a great candidate for academic scholarships. Sports wasn't my thing, so I didn't dare apply for an athletic scholarship. My parents had to use their savings for debts and not my education. So, with all the odds against me, I sought a school that my family could afford. I knew that I didn't want to stay home, so I looked far and wide. I applied to schools that i knew i could adapt and learn at the same time. The right college would have been an ivy league university on the east coast . Yet, I graduated cum laude from an HBCU in the deep south with a degree in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement. I choose to take a difficult situation and make it work for me. I took out reasonable loans and participated in work study programs. I made my eduation work for me. Campus life could have been better, but i was there to be in the classroom. The college experience is what you walk away with. The decisions you make along the way, will definitely determine you future.

I would say to both the parents and students to start early and know what your needs are. Look for schools that are within your price range and that excell in the area of your major. I would also suggest that the parents and students visit a multitude of schools to get the feel of the campus and classes before they select one. Apply for every scholarship and grant early, even if you think you won't get it because you never know. Also, take out as few loans as you can. One very important thing about college life I would like to stress is that it's only as hard as you make it. Parents make sure your students go off to college with everything they need, and that includes extra money because books are expensive. The required books for a semester can run up to $500, maybe even more. Students, make sure you carefully plan everything before you put it into action and don't let any of the other students pressure you into doing anything you don't want to do.

Some helpful advice I would give any students whoes trying to go to college . First, decided which school you would like to attend, either chose a 2 year college or 4 year university. Second, decided your major in which you will like to take up while you are in college, its ok be undecided. Third, check to see if that universty in which you choose to attend have your major. Fourth, send in your admission application to the school and application fee. Fifth, don't just attend a university because of your friends, the parties or even clubs. Choose the right college in which you know you will be able to have completed your major in at least four to five year, knowing you will be able to receive a degree. But most of all enjoy you college years, thats the best time in you life, you will also meet your life long friends and or even your future mate.

I would first advice parents and students to understand the students interest and academic capibilities. Before making a decision, the parents and student should visit a couple of schools on their list. During the college visit, attend a class, eat the food, sleep in the dorm and visit the administrative offices. It is important to talk to students that currently attend the college, find out the drop out rate and reasons why. It is also advisable to understand the professors tenure and experience in the field that you are interested in majoring. Remember to view statistics in your field to find out if your school is known in that field. It is a good idea on your trip to visit the student career center to understand how they prepare students for their career search. Understand that not any college is perfect in all areas. Prioritze what is important to you and what makes you happy and what you can or can not live with in your new environment. The student should get involved to meet new people/friends and understand their new enviornment surrounding the campus which will make one feel at home.

I would just say that the student should make sure if they would like to go to a school away from home or if they truly would prefer to stay home and go to a local school.
