I wish I had known how hard it was to talk to anyone who was on my side. I have not had many positive experiences with the administration including: councelors and transfer advisors. From my experience, this school does not have the personnel that it takes to run a community college effectively and smoothly.
I wish i had known just how fun school would be. I also wish i had known just how hard and expensive college is when you have a job and a family to take care of.
I wish that I would have known how important it is just to be myself before I attended my school. Antelope Valley College is an institute built on the creativity and accomplishments of others, and in order to contribute one must be themselves. I wish that I had not of been so worried about my appearance and believed in who I was as a person. Every great school in America has been founded on one special idea from someone who believed they could make a difference, and now I know that I can make a great difference to my school.
before i went to this school, i should have known that self discipline and enthusiastic dedication to studying is the main key to succeed. and i should have known that without a job or financial aid, paying for classes and books are hard especially if you dont have help.
I wish I would have known more about some of the professors and student services counselors. I have run into some professors who just need to retire and get a life because they just do not seem happy teaching any longer. As far as the counselors go I have also experienced some that are not very helpful and do not take the time to advise the students properly with their education goals.
Before I came to this school I wish I had known that I needed to rely more on myself rather than the counselors because sometimes the path they recommend you take is not the one you need. They are there to help guide you but you have to be on top of things because things might go wrong and you're the one who suffers the consequences.
Comming to Anelope Valley College was an experience, me exspecting a harsh environment where it can be impossible to learn, turned out to be the exact opposite, attending this college has been a wonderful experience, a place that I feel ithat I can learn in, an untheatened environment. I really feel at place at this college, and I really hate to leave, but although this school is just a 2 year college I feel it has given me just the skills I need to be confident and unafraid of the college world as well as the real world as well.
I wish i knew about all the programs the college has to offer. I am the first one in my family to have ever graduated from high school and to now attend college. It was very confusing at first, but now I know there is Financial aids, scholarship opportnities, studying abroad, clubs for latino/latinas, Honors clubs etc. I love it all.
