Once again it really depends from department to department. However, ASU students are very laid back and open-mined. I was an international student and I felt very welcomed and managed to make lots of friends at Arizona State University. Of course, there are snobs and people that are less accepting at every school but I carefully selected the people I interacted with. As there are almost 65.000 students at ASU there is plenty of people to choose from. Most people wear shorts and T-shirts or polo shirts or jeans. The weather is really hot so really anything that is casual will do. I often joked that ASU students look like they all dress from Aeropostale or Abercrombie and Fitch :). There is definitely political awareness at ASU. There are always some protest or drive organized on the main lawn and I feel that most students are democrats but that might be more true about global studies students since Arizona is normally a republican state.

ASU is such a large school that you will interact with all kinds of students on campus. The student body is a mix of students from all races, religions, socio-economic statuses, LGBT, or any other kind of group you could classify people by. There isn't any real standard description of the students at ASU, because ASU attracts all kinds of students. Most students are from Arizona, but there is a large number of students from out-of-state as well. I don't think that any student would feel out of place at ASU. ASU truly offers something for everyone and everyone will be able to find a group of people with similar interests.

There is such a variety in the kind of people who go here and the goals that people have. I have met so many different people and have met friends that I will know for the rest of my life.

Students at Arizona state are unique and varied. You can find any variety and combination of personalities imaginable. There are groups for all ages, sizes, races, religions, ect. ect. There are groups for everyone interested. On the surface ASU contains tanned blonde girls, and buff tan guys but with a little digging you will find tons of multi-cultural groups, frats, and more. Most students are from California or Arizona however like me, from New York, many students are from all over the country flock to the campus. Students vary on the political and economic spectrum. There are always interesting events on campus, political movements, clubs attempting to recruit, and more. ASU provides the opportunity for all the find their niche.

There are a lot of students at Arizona State University and I appreciate how diverse the campus is. You will literally meet so many people from all over the nation or from other countries. There are so many organizations out there that is proof on how diverse this campus is and how accepting ASU is for all types of student. The only negative thing about the students at school is that based on race, religion, interests, etc. they all stick together. For example, I am hispanic and only know and have hispanic friends. I joined a predominately hispanic sorority and I have just stuck with that. I know ASU is diverse but I don't make much of an effort to know people outside of my comfort zone. I feel that I won't fit in or relate to other people. That is how it is everywhere though. Everybody sticks with what they are comfortable. ASU is diverse but not united.

Joseph

So far, my classmates have been average. How can someone lump together so many people and describe them? It's imposssible. People are individuals. I could say that most of the people I have met place a higher emphasis on partying than school work, but I'm assuming that will begin to change as time goes on. Most of the people I've met have generally been friendly and non-judgemental, whih is nice and a big change from high school.
