What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Chelsea

how to study

Allison

I wish that I would have known more about more on campus activities like clubs and other organizations. I feel like I could have become more involved and meet some more people my freshman year than I actually did.

Matt

I wish I had known that there are many options to go abroad and get great internships

John

I wish I had known how urban the area was because it takes away the feeling of being at a big university often and there is never any parking. I also wish I had known the way students show off their money out here and seem to have no work ethic of any sort.

Amy

I wish I had known that college requires a lot more studying than high school!

Cody

I wish I would have known that the engineering advisors know even less about the program then students. 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the time the advisors are leading students in the wrong direction and forcing students to take classes that outside the program. Oh did I mention that advising is REQUIRED every semester before registering for classes, and the advisors must sign off on it. Any student must meet with their advisor in person to do this as well, no email support, inconvient office hours for students, and poor advising too.

The weather. I have gotten used to it now but if you don't like heat and dryness, you will have hard time adjsting to the climate. Also, the size of the school is somewhat big so unless you're in "College of Design" where I am in, it is hard to feel the "bond" between your classmates. (Assuming you are not involved in any social groups on campus). However, it all depends on how you make out your own way! It takes time but it gets a lot more fun later.

Esther

how much everything would cost ...

Abigail

I wish i had known how hard the workload was going to be.

Kristina

I wish I had known what I wanted to do with my life - if I'd known I wanted to be a doctor, I could have entered an accelerated program. I also wish I'd been more familiar with the clubs here on campus.

Benjamin

that you need to have a lot of money to really fit in

Kristin

I wish I had known how much more work college requires than high school. When I was in high school, I mostly just coasted through my classes without ever having to study much or do any homework. My college introductory classes (i.e. Introduction to Psychology) were also quite easy, but I was definitely taken aback once I got into my upper division courses. I learned the hard way that it is easy to get lured into a false sense of security during your freshman year, but it definitely increases in pace later.

Ryan

College is nothing like high school.

Tara

I would never chance what I set out to do, but I feel bad because of all the money my parents are trying to give me towards my education. They are very worried about funding next year because of the way our country is and not giving loans out. They feel bad, as do I, about how much deb I will be in before I leave school. I love school, and I am so thankful to have this opportunity.

Katie

Nothing really, I like the learning and discovery experience I have had since coming to ASU

Heather

I wish I knew how important it is to get involved on campus. I just recently joined a sorority. Not only does it help me with my schoolwork but I also am involved in many extra curricular activities and community service. Being active in a student organization helps after graduation when trying to get a job. I only wish I knew how important this was before last year and did not wait until this year to join.

Julianne

That there were other Christians to hang out with. I thought I was the only one.

Chenell

Nothing, once you get here it pretty much explains itself.

Eric

I wish I would have learned to be more social earlier on. For the first semesters I was quiet and reserved and didnt have that much fun. Once i started to talk more to new people and learn more about them i started to have more fun as well. I also wish i learned to study and take notes in class prior to college. In highschool i barely studied and barely took notes and when i got to college i was shocked at the workload.

Michael

Everything about ASU, and how horrible it was.

Christina

I came here because of the Herberger college of dance was highly rated in the country. I auditioned and was accepted. The program is very elitist in my opinion. I am also a Sundevil dancer (Co-captain) and in the DG sorority. They don't like anyone who is not strictly dance performance. I feel that I am not taken seriously there. I love the program and I the opportunities that I have experienced (eg) danced pregame and halftime for the Superbowl in Phoenix 2008, networking with awesome dancers, students from all over the country.

Ila

the vastness of the campus and what it will be like in the future
