We Asked Students, What's your overall opinion of this school?

Chelsea

Arkansas state university is a great institution with amazing faculty and staff.

Gabrielle

I like the college. I have only been to the campus a handful of times because I am an online students but the campus is very nice. I would personally prefer smaller if I was on campus.

Emma

Arkansas State University is a small school stuck to an even smaller town, where there is nothing to do or see without driving at least an hour into Memphis, or two hours into Little Rock. We are bad at sports (except rugby where we excel), the academics are sad, the culture is white washed, there is no where to go, or do, or eat, or enjoy yourself. It is a small town college for a small town type of person.

Eisha

I love the university, even students online that are also in class students, are there to help as is the professors. Some students that are in class students can help to explain more of what the professor may be looking for. I would most definitely recommend people to AState whether it is online or on campus! I am happy that I have come to AState.

Kajavia

Overall it's a great school. If a person is interested in Nursing they should definitely come here because I heard the program is rated very high. Nice professors, the food is okay, the library is okay.

Amelia

Overall, Arkansas State University has been a great opportunity to learn from ranging from academics to campus living. This campus really opened my eyes to finding the inner me and help me developed life-long friendships. I am so honored to have had this opportunity to spread my wings a little.

Abbigale

It is a good school but it was not my first choice. They have the better program for what I want to be as my career, therefore I choose this school. I wanted to go to a different school all my life. I got to that point in my life to where I needed to pick the best school for my career. I went to a community college before this to get my basics. I really liked that school. I’m not very fond of the professors I have in my program but I’m here to get my degree and start my career.

If you're looking for a good college experience, Arkansas State is for you. If you're someone who is filled with school spirit and want to be among others like you, Arkansas State is for you. If you're wanting the best in the state when it comes to academics, then Arkansas State is for you. With hundreds of opportunities at Arkansas State University, you're bound to find something there for you. While tuition may be a little high, there are plenty of privately-funded scholarships that you can apply for to help make paying for your education a little bit easier. The professors at A-State genuinely care about their students and want the best for them. Not many places have that connection. Located in Jonesboro, it's in a prime location that's not far from the Ozarks, Memphis, St. Louis, and many more wonderful locations so there's always something to do if you don't mind a little drive. Overall, Arkansas State University is a wonderful campus with a great history and full of opportunities to succeed. Wolves up!

kiyantle

At Arkansas State University, there are great people there to accommodate you in all aspects of life. Academics are the key to success at this college. There is a new building that just got reconstructed which is for the NYIT college of nursing. The athletic department is on a rise and brings in many visitors to the campus. The art department would have to be big here, too. Various artists come to display their works of art and serve as an inspiration to the students taking these courses. The dining hall has great food and there is no waiting in long lines. The professors develop relationships with students in class and outside of class which is essential in education. Overall, Arkansas State University is a great place to attend.

Keeaundra

I love Arkansas state, and I believe it is a great place and it will take me many places in life. I strongly encourage anyone looking for their perfect college to consider Arkansas State University. It has shown me so much in a very small amount of time and I have met so many amazing people.

Jade

I enjoy attending Arkansas State University. However, there are things that could be improved. I would like the campus pool to have more accessible hours. Either way, I have had enjoyable experiences at Arkansas State University. I recommend it for Arkansas residents especially.

Ali

I love everything about this campus and this school. There are opportunities waiting around every corner and so many amazing people to meet. Education is the number one priority among all student groups. The beautiful campus, challenging curricular, and qualified staff at Arkansas State easily make this school one of the best in my opinion.

Tristan

I love A-State! Although I am from the same town, our campus feels like a town or community within itself. I think it's the perfect size: not too big, not too small. I really appreciate the accessibility of the library, dining services, and Red Wolf Center. My favorite thing is probably the close proximity of everything on campus. Nothing is unreasonably far from anything else. I walk to class every day and never feel rushed between classes to get to my next building. The only thing I would change is the amount of parking we have.

Tykia

Beautiful campus! The staff and students are friendly as well and there is almost ALWAYS something to do on campus whether that be a game, fitness class, concert, or even a forum. Arkansas State University also provides tons of computer labs for students to access.

Emily

Arkansas State University is a very good school in many aspects. The academics are top rate and allow anyone who seeks an education there to be sure to get a good quality education. The extracurricular activities offered cover a wide range of interests and allow students to be involved in many ways. The number one priority of the faculty and staff is to make sure that the students feel welcomed and that their education is important. At Arkansas State, students are surrounded by others who want to encourage them to do their best academically and get involved on campus and in the community in which they are living. Overall, Arkansas State University is a wonderful school to attend.

Sydney

Arkansas State University-Main Campus is an overall amazing place to be. Not only is the campus very welcoming and well laid out, but the students and the community around it are equally astonishing. I first began being interested in Arkansas State all the way back in the eighth grade. My teacher was requiring us to research and compare many colleges in our area and A-State was one of my options. I e-mailed many different colleges to tell them a little bit about who I was and what I was doing and surprisingly, Arkansas State was the only one that seemed interested in me. Even as an eighth grader! As the years passed, A-State kept up with me, sending things in the mail and through e-mail. This really caught my attention and that is when I decided that A-State was where I belonged. I stayed involved and kept researching. I believe that the icing on the cake was when I discovered all of the extracurricular activities they offered. There are so many options and there is probably something for everyone on that campus. Anywhere from Greek Life, to cheer and dance teams, to an actual Quidditch team. Any Harry Potter fans dream. This college accepts people of all kinds and anyone can find a place they feel welcome and like they fit in. I am so glad that Arkansas State answered me back years ago because now, I can say without a doubt, that I am where I belong.

TyJuan

It has a great environment, and you can meet a new person everyday. There are plenty of things to do on and off campus. They have a limitless amount of sororities/fraternities that anyone person could be in. The professors are always there to help and always give suggestions to people on need of it.

Rachel

I love Arkansas State University! It is for sure my home away from home. I thought it would be way different transferring from a larger school to this smaller school, but it was definitely the right move. Everyone is more than happy to help you with anything!

Asia

Arkansas State University is not a school I would recommend attending. They are horrible when it comes to handling financial aid. 11 people got their accounts hacked into and their refund was stolen and Astate told them they weren’t going to do anything about it. I’ve had some encounters myself with Financial Aid and the Registrars officeand none of them have been nice. The people here are simple minded and they’re are not enough culture activities here either.

Karysta

I love it here! I've made so many new friends in just the first few weeks of being here and has such a welcoming environment. The professors are always available and are so kind. They make sure that you are up to date and caught up in class. Not to mention, lots of cute guys!

N

It is an affordable school to attend. I enjoyed my time there. The town it is situated in is small, but busy. There is plenty to do to keep students occupied. If students do get bored Memphis, TN us only about a hour and a half away. I highly recommend this school to students close to the area. Much better than U of A for sure.

Alec

It is a nice school. The classes have all been very informative and challenging enough. My teachers have all been great. Jonesboro is a nice enough town, plenty of restaurants if you are into trying different food. It is plenty racially diverse too, which adds some color to your experience.

Lexie

I love it here! There’s always a club to participate in, people to talk to, and places to go. The professors are wonderful, and you can always contact them either personally or though email, and you always feel like you’re a part of the class and a priority to them when you get one on one. The campus is safe, the food is good, the Greeks are nice and friendly - I can’t think of anything I’d improve!

christina

So far AState seems like a great school. The professors and personnel are very quick and helpful to all students especially the online students. The price could be a little less but at least they dont price gouge you like UALR or UCA. They actually seem to care about their students, we are not just a paycheck to them.

cory

ASU is a wonderful university that makes all feel welcome. I am proud to attend ASU and receive my degree. The campus experience is great. I have experienced the campus life as a visitor and as alumni, it truly one of the best colleges in the state.

Jacob

Arkansas State University is among the larger university campuses in Arkansas. Overall the University has a great layout with new additions being added every few years. As far as these being welcome additions, I believe the money could be put toward renovations and updating some of the aging academic buildings and dormitories on campus. AState has a wide selection of degree to pursue and a vast majority of educators on campus are knowledgeable in their field of study. Overall the campus is a good campus for local students looking to get a degree in their desired field.

Ashley

The Arkansas State University-Main Campus is an exceptionally good campus. The people here are helpful and both students and faculty are available for any needed information. The on-campus living is exceptional, at least in the Living Learnign Community where I reside. As far as all other dorms go the living conditions are questionable. Our cafeteria offers a variety of good meals and we have other options throughout campus for food including our food court and other snack bars. Academically speaking the college is very well off though I would not go as far to say that it is exceptional by any means. All in all Arkansas State University is a college that I am happy to attend and woudl recommend it to others.

Rebecca

Arkansas State is a great university and I am happy to be a part of the community here on campus. I have enjoyed the last couple of years I have spent here and am excited to finish my college career here. I couldn't have made a better choice in choosing a school to attend. I've met some of my best friends here and I am forever grateful for education and opportunities I am receiving. Go Red Wolves!

Kara

I think that it is a good college to attend. There is something for everyone here and the majority of people are friendly. I recommend this college to everyone who is looking for a college home. I transferred here back during my freshmen year of college and I tell everyone that I never regret my decision.

Christopher

Arkansas State University is a great place for students looking to leave a suburban setting, without falling victim to a large city environment. While there are not a lot of options for extracurricular activities and night life, there are plenty of opportunities to have a good time. The Athletic scene is growing daily, and the Red Wolves are now considered relevant in the Sun Belt Conference. Football games always have excellent attendance, and consistently bring in many of the best schools in the country to compete. Many students join a fraternity or sorority, which is an extremely large part of the student environment. Freshman are encouraged to "Go Greek" upon arriving on campus. My experience there as an undergrad was excellent, and I would not trade it for anything.

JonPierre

Being a black student at a predominantly white institution is very interesting. On the academic’s side, I feel like it is definitely a great place for me to be. However, the social aspect of Arkansas state is very weird. I’ve been there almost 2 years and I noticed that most of the students are very clique oriented. If you’re not apart of a group or if you don’t fit the mold that the other students want you to fit you probably won’t fit in. Most of the African American students rely on Greek life to bring the demographic together. Sometimes it really awkward trying to befriend some people on campus. For example, a guy in my class was trying to make a joke to me and he made it kind of racist to see if I would laugh. I didn’t take any offense to it but it was very awkward and my reaction was like “Okay...”. I’m from south Memphis so I don’t have a lot experience with people from other races but I know what would be offensive and what wouldn’t be. After this past semester, I realized that my purpose for being at Arkansas state isn’t the social aspect. I’m there for my academic progression. I finished the semester with a 3.9 g.p.a.

Rebecca

I feel like Arkansas State University-main campus is a very good college to go to. There are fraternities and sororities that students can join if they’d like, the facilities on campus are always kept clean and looking presentable, and the housing could use some improvements.

Jackie

I always enjoyed my time at Arkansas State University, so much that I have not enrolled in a Master's program. The college of fine arts, is where I started, and the college of education is where I have recently started after 5 years off! I love the atmosphere!

Tabatha

I loved the campus and the advisers and students were really nice the entire time I was there. I plan on attending this college. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and I would recommend someone to go to it. I will definitely be talking to my friends about this college and how much I loved it.

Calista

Arkansas State University is an overall great campus with many opportunities available. The list of majors available is plentiful and very diverse so that almost anybody attending can find what they are looking for. The campus is a nice size and full of many friendly faces.

Danielle

I love the atmosphere here at ASU, the student body is active and the school spirit is a campus wide thing! The community is a college town and they make you feel good about being a Red Wolf! The campus is expanding in major ways, and the faculty does their best to help you strive for greatness!

Sarah

I believe Arkansas State University is a very good University. There are always plenty of activities and events to attend on campus. The staff are kind and always happy to help. The professors truly care about their students and the learning experience.

Jane

I love the community ASU provides. My Acedemic Advisor, once if figured out who they were, is very wise and helps me make smart chocies even if they aren't the easiest routes. Unfortunately, individual student sucess doesn't seem to be a priority here. Majority rules! I am a junior now and I still feel like I am just a number sometimes. Majority of my classmates, still drop or fail out. How is that acceptable?? Tutoring is avaliable, however they expect you to bring you own questions/ homework and they help you find "the answers". Why not help find/ explore concepts? The curving for exams are getting ludacris! I can flat out fail an exam and somehow reccive a B on it?! Why not make the material understandable, cause clearly we didn't get it? Finally, why make me purchase a +$100 book if you never refrence it in class?! Powerpoints are great but I can read them, why share them if you're just going to read them off in class to us?

ASU is an amazing school. There's always something to get involved in, and always someone who wants to help you get involved. Yes, we have parties but they aren't all that great so you pretty much want to stay in your room or go to the library for fun.

Brianne

Over all I really like it. The people are very friendly and most of the professors are very helpful with anything you need. The cafeteria food is okay but not the best. The housing is pretty good depending on where you live, for example; the freshman dorms aren't the greatest, but hey it's all apart of the college experience.

Grant

An awesome school surrounded by a very supporting town. I was a freshman here years ago and loved every minute of my time here. I am now finishing my degree in hopes to eventually get to law school to lobby for the rights of children. Very proud to be a student here!

Justine

This is a wonderful university with an abundance of opportunities for it's students both for its academics and the professional world after college. This university has no shortage of dedicated and passionate faculty and staff, whether it be the professors that are nothing short of encouraging of student's success, or the many individuals assisting in college life on campus in departments like res life, the financial aid office, or even the counseling center. Astate clearly values the importance of its resources for the students and this shows in its rec center, counseling center, the extremely helpful students of the bookstore and other facilities that serve as resources for the students to make life on campus as great as it can be. The Chancellor, Kelly Damphousse is a truly compassionate leader that prioritizes student's suggestions and needs over all else and is always willing to listen to and address issues the community faces, and makes every student feel important. The student body is a great group of students that are truly a family and work to make our school a safe, welcoming community. Overall this university is a great place to further anyone's education while feeling right at home while doing it and I can't speak highly enough of this University!

Elizabeth

I absolutely love the school. I've wanted to attend Arkansas State since I was about 7 and I haven't changed my mind since. People have tried but Arkansas State is the best. The football team is awesome and they have so many titles to prove it. Also the people there are to unique and accepting. It's such a beautiful campus it's impossible to not love it.

Lathairio

It needs to have more exciting events and opportunities for students. The food is good but think we should have more options when it comes to food selections. Most of all I believe the prices for the food along with the meal plans should decrease enough for those who can not afford a meal plan. Tuitions along takes the majority of the students funds especially when there are those who do not receive refund checks after so long. This act forces students to spend unnecessary money on items they should need unless it’s pertains to the person’s inquiry.

Bethany

I really enjoy going to the games. As well that it has a lot of near by shops and malls. There are amazing restaurants around town. If you want pizza you can get it. If you want a home cooked meal you can get it. There are two Wal-marts near the campus.

Sharetta

Great community, great professors and students! I attended University of Central Arkansas for my first degree. So I knew what the college scene was like. Arkansas State University is different but in a positive way. I feel at home on campus, comfortable, and like I am surrounded by other people who are striving to achieve similar goals!

Pierre

This university is by far the best I have ever seen. I am originally from France and here, I can tell students and professors are highly involved in what they do. I do like being around successful people that deserve their responsibilities and the job they have. I feel extremely proud and lucky to be given the chance to study at Arkansas State University.

Natalee

This campus is great. There is always something going on. You can always find a club meeting or game to go to. People take their academics serious here. Everyone I know is very focused on their grades. Greek life is very prevalent, but it's not overwhelming. I very much enjoy Arkansas State University.

Landy

My experience at Arkansas State University has been amazing so far. Academically, I feel that I am being challenged to be the best I can be, and the information that I'm learning in current and applicable to my future career. Socially, I know there are many opportunities to get involved with the university and the community, whether it's political events , religious events, sporting events, etc. I feel safe in the area, and it's kept clean. Overall, I think Arkansas State University is a great school.
