The advice I would give to students about finding the right college is to ask current students or alumni. It is so much easier to understand how that certain college is when the information is given from an experienced person from that college. Students and alumni can give the true information about that school, how the college social life is, and how the professors are. To make the most of their college experience, I would tell the student to get out and be social! College is all about meeting new and different people, and most college people are friendly and want to get to know you as much as you want to get to know them. A student who is happy and has friends will definitely do better academically too! I would tell the parents to let their kids go. College is the time when students learn how to start depending on themselves more and less on their parents. The parents definitely need to stay in touch, but they definitely need to let their children become more independent. Their children will really appreciate that from their parents, and they will adapt to college life quickly.
